Question for geezers

How many of you, in your later years, have bought a firearm just because it was the one you yearned for when you were a kid and never got, you have no use for it but just bought it for that reason?

Only a few times. Well, maybe a couple more.........

Absolutely. At this stage in life, some things are meant to be enjoyed, and can always be passed down to others.

Most of the guns I buy are ones I used to look at in American gun magazines a long long time ago.

I'm only 47 but every gun I own is because of what I wanted as a kid. I've liked old leverguns and SAA's since I was a kid watching old westerns with my dad.
I started buying what I could when I was still in high school.



I think I'm still that kid. I'll never be a geezer when it comes to guns.

Is there any other reason to buy a fire arm?

I bought a new BLR lightweight .308WCF for the opposite reason. This one is the same length and weight as a win 94, but with a little more pop. At almost 55 , I'm looking to modern technology cause, lately, they been raising the height of the mountains that I hunt

Probably why I got my first Contenders/Encores.
I remember reading about them (back when Field and Stream and Outdoor Life were actual outdoorsman magazine ) and I always wanted a Contender. The thought of a gun you could just buy extra barrels for was intriguing.

Then I found out how much they cost... My first car cost less. I came from a beans and cornbread, cotton-picking kinda family. And proud of it.

So...just a couple of weeks ago I bought yet another Contender with .222 Rem and .357 Max barrels. I had one in .22 LR and .30-30 but someone wanted it worse than I did. And I currently own 3 complete Encore rifles (kind of defeats the concept of interchangeable barrels, huh?)

Truth be told, it's probably why I own so many leverguns. I always drooled over my grandfather's 1906 mfg .30 wcf 1894 and it now sits in my safe, along with much younger brethren.

This is the AR-7 Folding Sniper Rifle........

A roomie in the Air Force told me that this was a real gun in the late 70,s. I thought all those years it was just another prop. Finally bought one a few years ago. Impresses friends, and is a fun gun to shoot.

Being primarily an impulse buyer, I'll see something that clicks a long ago memory, and have to have it. Of course the nice thing is that now I can afford them.

Chose a Ruger Mark-I 22 LR instead of a Single Six back in the mid-70's, figuring no reason to save 22 LR brass like with a centerfire. Went well with my 10/22. Got a Super Blackhawk for my centerfire handgun and matched it with a Marlin 1894. Still, always regretted not having a Single Six.

Then 40 years or so later, after owning dozens of other revolvers, including some in 22 LR (only double action ones though), I spotted a used Single Six convertible, and got it.

It is a NICE handgun that I'll likely never be good enough at shooting to find any weaknesses in it.

For a while I just mostly bought guns I used or needed for work....1911, AR15, backups, etc. Now that I'm retired I've bought a Marlin TK 30-30, a 1961 Winchester 94. I recently sold a Yamaha 4x4 I wasn't using and bought two Colt SAA .45's

I wanted and got a Year Of My Birth Winchester 94...that would be a 1951.
Four shots walked it into the 1 inch bull at 50 yards. I believe I'll keep it.

Got mine a year or so from 86er... don't believe I've shot it yet!
