Mr. Racoon...RIP
My 50 year old Crossman 760 BB pump-up still works as good as the day I bought it. Fifteen pumps, one BB between the eyes = one dead coon that's been raiding the cat food.

Blaine, Air rifles have come a long way since we were kids. I've been looking at them of late and thinking of getting a precharged. Crossman makes a .25 now call a Marauder that is quite a stopper.

I wonder how long a precharged would hold it's charge? I pull this ancient Crossman out of the corner maybe once or twice a year for pests around the place. If I upgrade, I'll prolly get a single cock break action in .22.......Rusty wrote:Blaine, Air rifles have come a long way since we were kids. Back in the 70s, my older brother used on of those on a bunch of sparrows and starlings around my Grandmother's place. They are accurate and will kill birds quite well.

My only BB gun was a spring-powered Sears Ted Williams from the early 70s that looked like a gold-plated Winchester 94. It held 50 BBs and you could watch the BB sail away on it's rainbow arc.....When it finally gave up the ghost (after ten of thousands of BBs) I asked for a Sheridan Blue Streak (they cost $69.95)
I got my first real levergun instead. An Ithaca single-shot lever-action that I shot .22 shorts of of, until Daddy realized it was cheaper to buy .22LR

Re: Mr. Racoon...RIP
That does not surprise me...on the BB gun still working. A few years ago this guy found an old Daisy pump and gave it to me. I did some research and found it to be made in the late 1920's. Still worked. In fact, it worked so good I put it on the internet and got $260 bucks for it, to which we split the bucks.
We have a coon (4 legged) that comes up to our door every night and eats the cat food and other junk we put out. Sometimes, the cats, a fox, and the coon will all be in a 10' area not paying attention to each other.-----6

Y2K has three Daisy Red Ryder BB-guns hanging on his wall. The one I bought for him the day he was born, and one I had when I was growing up, and the one my Dad had when he was growing up. The oldest one is the strongest and most accurate!
Good shot Blaine!

1. Airguns should be stored with one or two pumps. Air pressure forces condensation out of air reservoir.

I'm not overly fond of them, but I'd never hurt one. These really are not mine. Mama and five kittens showed up, and they are not real socialized. After about 6 weeks, they have calmed down some. I want to call the local PAWS, and they will pick them up. If they are feral, they will get put down, if they are not they will fix them and adopt them out. I do not want to keep them.2571 wrote:1. Re: Mr. Racoon...RIP
Blaine, your old Crosman done good to do in a coon with one BB. I remember killing a possum with a head shot from my old Webley Premier pellet pistol and a German Bimoco Neue Spitz pellet I bought from the Beemans.
I had one of the Marauders in .25, and it was accurate, powerful and eerily quiet. I think it would have held a charge reasonably well, but the thing was so much fun to shoot, I was always running it down. Leaving a Marauder charged would be like leaving a bin of Red Vines on the living room coffee table and trying not to eat them ...
