Omaha NE...Where to Go

I'm going to be in Omaha tomorrow with an afternoon to kill.

Gun Shops that must be visited?
Museums that deal with 1800s period of time?
Landmarks that do the same?

I'm a nut about anything "Mountain Men", Cowboy, Lewis and Clark.............

Help me out here....Thanks!

My first reaction to your title was to tell you to go east until you cross the river...then things will be better

Then I thought about the Hornady plant, but that's 150 miles away.

A quick google map search showed General Crook's home to be there.

If all else fails, there's a Cabelas there ( different Gun Library in every town) ---- picked up a neat old winchester model 50 scattergun there a few years ago

Dang sure nothing good east of Nebraska.
Durham Museum downtown, Strategic Air Command Museum just west on I-80 if into aviation at all.
Not much for gun shops. Doesn't have any special or must see gun shops.
Cabelas on I-80, but probably not any different than any other Cabelas store, Scheels All Sports for guns too.
Bass Pro Shops, but you have to cross river into Iowa, and I have never found any good reason to do that except help rid that state of a large Tom every year.

Be warned about the filthy things, but the SAC museum is there. They're noisey, dangerous, and smell bad, but some people like to look at airplanes. At one time, an SR-71 was on pillar display.

I spent 20years pushing planes into the air, then 8 more as a test engineer, so I came by my hatred of planes honestly. Spent 4years at Offut AFB in the mid 90's, after peace broke out.

SAC museum...First time I ever got to see a B-58 "Hustler" up close...always my personal favorite.
Go to Joe Tess' place for lunch. They are famous for the fried Carp...but I like the whole fried Catfish better.

Head to the Joslyn Art Museum on the corner of 24th and Dodge Street. You can't miss it...its a huge pink marble building. Check out the old west art collection, original works by Charlie Russell...and many others. Admission is free.
