Dang. I'd be very interested if I didn't already have so much stuff. And...I just bought a .32 WCF/.32 H&R mag revolver....
I sure like the SP101s in .327 Federal, too.

During all the ammo panic buying last year, .327 Fed was still on the shelves.

PillHer has an SP101 in .327 Federal, and it is a nice little cartridge. It is accurate and the recoil is easily within her level of manageability. It uses the 115 grain lead flatnose bullets made for the .32-20, so finding a mold for lead bullets is simple. What it seems to be, in my opinion, is a straight wall cartridge with the performance of the .32-20 in a slightly smaller package. One of these days when I make the time, I would love to take a .357 caliber Model 92 and convert it to .327 Federal.

Blaine, I was just going to ask about the report, as the .32-20 in a revolver is ear splitting.

Those little High Pressure/High Velocity rounds are all loud. I'd prefer a nice, standard pressure 230fmj if I had a choice about popping caps without ear protection....

Old Savage told me that because of my love of more exotic cartridges that I should get a handgun in 327 Fed. Thinking he had it right. A Single Six would be great in said cartridge for me at least. Probably quieter than some of my other handgun cartridges. :D -Tutt

I'd love a Ruger in a single-six, or SP101, but the single-7, 8, 9, 10s don't interest me at all. If I want more than six rounds I get a double action or a semi.

Well, this is pretty interesting for me, for some reason, especially in the 4-5/8" barrel length, as I just won the bid on gunbroker for a Stainless Single Six, with a 4-4/8 barrel 22/22mag convertible. It seems that I have always owned a single six of some kind, having owned a 5.5 inch barrel stainless one for quite a few years and a 6.5 inch before that, purchased back in 1975 for $113.00 Too bad we can't buy them for that now.

I last shot mine at an indoor range. No recoil to speak of, but it made everyone in the range jump. All kinds of "what the heck was THAT?" comments.

You all are killing me. I've been intrigued by the .327 Magnum since it was introduced. I just love the idea of guns that can handle multiple calibers. Being able to digest .327 Federal Magnums, .32 H&R Magnums, .32 Long's and .32 Short's is just too cool to resist.

Then I saw this photo. I've looked for one but never found one. Figure this was custom produced.

Image

Now with Ruger coming our with this in a Single Six, the only questions I have are:

(1) Which barrel length should I get (leaning towards 4 & 5/8")
(2) How fast can I squirrel away the funds!

Which barrel length would you all get?

With the 327 you'd loose a lot of velocity with the short barrel, and the muzzle flash would be serious, so..... :?

Why does everybody think only of shooting full house .327 mag loads in this gun. I am going to get one and 99% of what I will shoot through it will be .32 S&W longs, one of the most accurate cartridges for over 100 years now.

Then why not just get a 32 Long?
FWIW, I suspect fixed sights on that gun will be a liability - only right for one load.

Fixed sights? On the Single Seven? They look like adjustable sights to me. http://ruger.com/products/newModelSingl ... odels.html

I have a 32 H&R Single Six and love it. The cartridge is scaled perfectly to the Single Six. It does everything better than my 22LR/22 mag Single Six and these days, shooting it is even less expensive (not counting labor in casting and reloading). I have an SP101 in 327 Federal Magnum too. GREAT little gun. My 5.5" 32 Single Six with a 98 gr SWC under a full dose of Lil'Gun comes with within 100 fps of factory 327 Magnums out of the SP101. Overkill for Grouse and Ground Squirrels... I haven't shot a Yote yet but I suspect it would be dandy on them too.

I'm probably going to buy one. I'd prefer Blue (lighter weight) but a seven shot 327 that will also handle lighter duties would be a dandy "Woods Loafing" gun. 50 rounds of ammo and the gun are less than four pounds and will handle quite a variety of shooting opportunities, very economically.

That's why I'm leaning towards the shortest barrel. I will probably only short .327 Mag's occasionally. I really see it as a "kit gun", or a "woods walking" gun. Seems ideal. :D

I'd really love one just like that Bearcat conversion. Here though, we can't get it because its 32 cal, and the bbl. would have to be 4.2"+.

If I could, one with a 3.5" bbl. would be cool.

I would probably just as soon have one in .38 Spl. or .357. I wonder if 5 would fit?

I load 327 Fed with 115 gr cast at about 1000 fps , under the speed of sound. The heavier bullet is better on shooting skunks and other varmints. They work great out of my Blackhawk.

What kind of grip frame is that...?

I like the Bisley grips on hard-kickers, due in part to it being longer so my little finger grabs it better, but also there is a bit more circumference up top, which gets the pad of my finger on the trigger instead of the joint, and it looks like your grip frame would do that as well.

My daughter says carrying a 327 single six is impractical...

Our neighborhood is lousy with copperheads. This evening I went around back of the shop and found a fat copperhead coiled up on a small debris pile. I stood still while I removed one 327 Magnum cartridge, and thumbed in a 32 ACP cartridge... shot the snake through the head from close range, without any ringing in my ears, and no neighbors wondering what was going on. When I picked up the serpent with a stick for disposal, it was clear that she was pregnant.

Daughter reluctantly agreed... 327 Single Six is totally practical. ;)

I didn't think you could fire a .32 ACP in a .327 Federal Magnum chambered gun. No rim to hold the cartridge, and it certainly isn't long enough to set by the shoulder. Any issues with firing it or extraction?

No different from firing it in a revolver chambered for 32 H&R Magnum, 32 S&W Long, or 32 S&W. Each of those fires the smaller ones. My Blackhawk is chambered for 327, and it shoots everything down to and including 32 acp.

However, not all 32s will shoot 32 acp.
Ysabel Kid wrote:No rim to hold the cartridge, and it certainly isn't long enough to set by the shoulder.
32 acp is slightly rimmed. Not all 32 revolvers will chamber 32 acp. They all should, but sometimes the 32 acp rim slips through, or gets pushed through by the firing pin.
Ysabel Kid wrote:Any issues with firing it or extraction?
Nope... but to avoid extraction problems with the longer cases, I clean the cylinder before loading anything else. The longer ones could stick, just like a 22 that gets fouled by shorts, then cannot extract longs.

I saw three of the Single Seven revolvers on GB yesterday. They have started delivering them.

There is a thread on the Rugerforum about them now. This guy was unhappy and did not take delivery but returned it to Lipseys .

I picked mine up yesterday and didn't have the defects the gentleman at Rugers forum had. Everything looks typical Ruger quality. The only complaint I have is that the one grip is more proud of the metal than normal , but that is easily remedied if I choose to. But I choose to shoot it! I will try to post picks later this week.
