winchester slide action info
My friend has a winchester slide action .22 rifle. It is missing the internals far as the lifter, firing pin, tube rod. The slide cycles and hammer functions. looks like someone used it for the internal parts. still has the factory sights. serial number is 622334. any info, parts, opinions on this piece of history? Has some rifling left, just might a real good scrubbing. I have been wanting one for my next gun, He has a buddy who has one that is a shooter and will check to see if he will sell it.

Winchester made both exposed hammer & hammerless .22 pumpguns; but since you mentioned a hammer, I would WAG you most likely have a Model 1890, a Model 1906, or a Model 62/62A - so you need to determine which model (maybe via a bbl rollmark ? ) B 4 googling for the parts.

i could only make the winchester name out on the barrel. pretty heavy on the patina and it does have the exposed hammer. has some kind of stud on the rear of the action cover, not sure what that was for .Pete44ru wrote:.

Re: winchester slide action info
My guess is that it's an 1890 since that serial number would put it in the 1919 range, for that model.
1. If that "stud" is on the side of the receiver it's the takedown screw.
2. If it has an octagon barrel it's an 1890. It's either a 1906 or 62 if it has the round barrel.
3. You should be able to read the caliber markings, on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver.
All 3 models had the same basic internals, but caliber makes a difference if it's a 22WRF.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: winchester slide action info
It's a "parts gun". A partial one at that. It sounds like what's left is the proverbial "sewer pipe, with a fence post attached." Maybe $100-$150 if the wood hasn't been sanded.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: winchester slide action info
Without the internals and in the condition described, I'd offer no more than $100 for it. It might be worth more, but I wouldn't offer more. A complete gun in this area is going for $700+ depending on condition and chambering (the 1890s are specifically one thing or another, the other models are .22 LR-L-S interchangeably).

I'm glad to hear you got the Pony Express knife OK. .
The value's based on the remaining % of original factory condition; with a heavy metal patina & worn off markings, I suspect it will only have a shooter value - maybe less if the stock wood is significantly worn, cracked, etc.
(David's got waaay faster fingers than me - maybe he's just has his AM turbocharge of coffee )
