Are they finicky with cycling heavier 44s?

I have shot the Marlin 1894 .44 Mag. with projectiles up to 330grs with no feeding issues and excellent accuracy. 1886.

They do not like SWC's, and most are overbored. I had one that the bore slugged, .431".

Bullet shape and OAL just like any other pistol caliber lever gun. Mine seem to feed most RNFP slick while most Keith style bullets are a pain. Stick with RNFP type bullets loaded to proper length and go have fun!

I've found that I have to load some of the larger bullets into 44 special cases to get proper feeding.

Mine would hang up when cycling the fat Lee 310 gr. cast bullet. I made a slight radius on the bottom of the edge of the chamber opening. Fixed the hang-up and fed them fine after that.

ge
SAAMI standards for 44 mag is different for rifle and handguns. .431 for rifles and .429 for handguns. I don't know why that is, but it is. I size all my 44mag cast bullets to .433 so I can use the same bullet for both my Marlin and my Ruger Super Blackhawk.

I couldn't get acceptable accuracy with bullets heavier than 270 gr in my Marlin 1894 44mag. I've settled on the Ranch Dog 265gr gas checked and plain base cast bullets.

Mine gets a little hitchy sometimes with Federal Castcore. That is a very blunt lead bullet. 300 grain JHP and JSP have not been a problem.

Oh and my rifle apparently didn't get the memo that its slow twist can't group heavy bullets.
