last hunt of the year....and

Post by RIHMFIRE »

no bucks....but had a pretty good morning...
Started out with a bats zipping around...
Saw a doe and her yearling about 75 yards off in the tall grass
on the edge of a swamp...They hung around for a couple of hours and then bedded down...
Then a bobcat walk right under my stand...a big male...
I made a little psst noise and he pegged me right away..
and then proceeded to spray the stump he was standing next to...and walked off!
He was headed straight to the bedded does....Thought about taking him....but i didnt...
It took him about 5 minutes to get to the bedded deer...and he spotted them right off....
and he sat down to watched them. I think he was sizing up the yearling...but after a few minutes...
he just got up and walked past them...withing 5 yards....
And thats when the deer saw him.... and bolted towards me....blowing up a storm...The yearling stayed
in the cover and the doe went back to where they were bedded stomping and blowing for about 10 minutes...
She slowly worked her way back to the yearling, looking back every few steps....and then wondered off...
Quite a morning...Heres the view I had right in front of me...

Nice view from the stand. What area do you hunt?

Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes.

I have seen a few bobcats, but mostly they saw me first and were sneaking away if I saw them at all. That was one bold bobcat.

With the trees planted in a row it seems it gives you a shooting lane.If not it would be pretty darn thick. I sometimes hunt around citrus groves and you can sneek down
the drive rows and peek down through the trees. You can play cat and mouse with coyotes in those rows. Some places there will be 2-3 jackrabbits down every other row.

Back in the pre-historic cave man days, they invented leather so that they could stop using elastic on their lever guns.

Just kidding, of course! :D

I figure a good story is as good as a kill to me when I go hunting. I'm not missing any meals. As my Illinois deer season is winding down and I still don't have any meat in the freezer I'm looking for less stories and more shooting chances now.
