Bet you're too young to remember

Post by jnyork »

When I was a kid I pedaled "Grit" newspapers, you didn't get cash but instead "prizes" up to and including a new .22. Also, there was some kind of salve that had the same deal, cant remember the name of it.

Well, I'm glad to know that there are others here who remember past 1954. I feel like a spring chicken now!--------6

I remember my grandparents reading The Grit. My Mom was a town girl and had little interest. But I remember!

Well, I don't but I do remember past 1954, if only a little, well I would if I could remember. Truth is for some reason most of the memories I can recall started around 5 years old. Then again, it's probably good we don't remember being infants and toddlers, cuz then we'd already know what's coming on the back end.

I remember seeing the ads in comic books.... I was already selling newspapers, greeting/Christmas cards, and mowing lawns, and playing in a paying polka band....

30wcf, I hope not, because I delivered GRIT from my bicycle as a youngster myself.

I sold Grit to my neighbors and on my daily newspaper route in the late 70's.

As I recall I earned a Zebco fishing rod and reel, a football a couple times and some baseballs & a bat.

I am surprised at this, thought they were long gone by then. In fact, they are still around as a magazine.

I sold cloverine salve back around 1948. I also sold christian mottos that glowed in the dark!
Others sold lifetime light bulbs, seeds, magazines etc.

I missed being a 1960 baby by 3 days. :)
I was actually two weeks overdue.

I do remember the Grit advertisements for sales people
in the Boys Life magazine.

I remember when color TV, area codes, direct dialing, transistor radios, satellites and zip codes were invented... and a coke cost a nickle!

I remember Grit. I am reading the current Jan./Feb. issue now.
It has turned into a slick and very good bi-monthly magazine for small farmers and hobbyists. http://www.grit.com/#axzz2odPJagc5

Dunno about "invented"... but we didn't have a Color TV until the early/mid '80s...
