I personally think open carry as a civilian in public is stupid.

Your giving the bad guy advance warning. If he is out to do something bad, you are getting it first. If 50 people are open carrying, well, thats different.

In public, I don't want anyone to know whats in my pocket, although I do have a sometimes bad habit of slipping my 642 in my back pocket with a half inch of the butt sticking out.

Good people will not bother you anyway so no gun is needed.

Your drawing attention to yourself, some is negative.

We don't all pay attention 100% of the time. It just might the time your mind is somewhere else that the bad guy comes up behind you and snatches your gun.

At home, this all changes. I want everyone to know there are guns here. At my buds business, Targetmaster, every employee is required to carry open.--------------6

I agree 100%. Looks cool at first but her chances of weapon retention are zero if the bad guy decides he wants her gun.

You'all might have missed the detail that this is in Alaska. It would be rare for someone to NOT be carrying, concealed or open. The hypothetical bad guy knows he is surrounded by armed people and would face a circular firing squad. The Alaskans I know are reliably good shots.

I do agree that a retention holster would be better, just so the brown bear doesn't dislodge it.

I agree with the open carry...but on the other hand that Lady looks like she knows how to use it... :)

Most small towns close to the mountains in north western Wyoming you will find quite a few ladies and gents with chaps and packin a revolver of some sort in the stores or hamburger place. Its not to be cool like some of you think, its a tool you carry with you.
If it makes you feel uncomfortable, stay home.

Not Walmart, she does have a retention holster (not a good one), and I try to advise people to conceal in town.

I see you guys here are from the west or Alaska. The open carry may be fine there as most people from there have the same attitude...that's why you have little crime. :D

I'm from the East. We have a group of people that I seldom see on my trips to the rural west. I have come to know them well and if one thing is for sure, they have this jungle instinct, unlike civilized people. You turn your head the wrong way and you won't have a chance to keep them from snatching your heat....or your life. That's why the less they know, the better.----6

A friend of mine sent me that picture earlier this year. I thought he had taken a picture of my wife and photoshopped the pistol on it at first, they look so similar!

I would think, with no offence intended, that you are assuming all bad guys will be "tactical minded", and look for threats before doing their dastardly deeds. Most won't plan that far ahead, and prolly see a gun and change their minds. Now a "professional" bad guy will have all bases covered and will be prepared in advance, and it won't matter if someone is carrying open or concealed, or carrying at all...

How did Israeli Defense Forces get in here? Mickey Speline may have said she came to shop and had a pair of 38's and a gun.

I've been seeing this picture for a while now, but this is the first time I've heard that it was taken in a store in Alaska. I saw a couple of young women with pistols on their hips in the Fred Meyer store a few weeks ago and it seemed a little out of the ordinary. You don't see open carry much on the streets or public places in Fairbanks. The guns are there, but they are out kept out of sight.

+1

One of the greatest advantages of concealed carry is that you have the element of surprise in your favor. Once you convert to open carry, you not only remove the element of surprise, you immediately identify yourself as a primary target that must be neutralized or eliminated.

Personally I prefer to CC as well as OC... Because, as The Colonel said: "Two is One, One is None"...

Nothing more disconcerting to a BG than to have an OC firearm discarded only to look down the barrel of a BuG...

I always thought carrying a Desert Eagle in 44 Mag concealed, with an 'open carry' NAA Pug in 22 LR, would be humorous - the Bad Guy 'disarms' you and you hand over your tiny revolver, only to stick your buffalo-killer in his face and demand an apology...

Like I said... if she's IDF/Mossad trained, you would be surprised how quickly she could play.

Or: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMsAvWOEj-k

Also, it could be one of those "LDA" guns, though that's less likely than her running Condition 3/Israeli style...
