Beards and bows

Post by FLINT »

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well and starting to get the pre-season 'bug' - I know I am.

I know this isn't a bowhunting forum, but I figured I'd throw this out there.

I usually trim my beard back this time of year in anticipation of hunting season - but this year, I'm less motivated to do so, and my beard is a little bigger than usual.

With bow season starting in a month, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to keep your beard from getting in the way of the bow string - it really hurts when some hairs get pulled! thinking about something that I might be able to wear over my lower face/neck to keep the hairs from the string.

thanks for any ideas!

quick beard pick - attached - the shirt i'm wearing today does have a collar - but its under the beard.

Some of the folks who have to cover beards for religious reasons (I guess) just wrap them. I've seen a few docs of some such persuasion who were turban-wearers, but the wrap-thing went down around their beard as well.

I'm thinking some camo mosquito-netting as a beard-wrap, maybe just extended to wrap whatever else you want camo'd.

Maybe you could braid it? Biker types sometimes braid it, I guess it helps keep it out of their face when riding.

Yes, I work in the food manufacturing business and like OI said, beard nets are not an option. Not wearing one will get you a day or 2 off. The guys who wear these tell me that after an hour or so, you forget about it. These are white, but I guess it would be easy to dye them.

With that huge beard you have, you might have to sew two together, but then, hair compresses rather easily so one ought to do it for you.----Sixgun

They make camo head stockings that are designed for concealment but would also control the beard.

Take a bandana and fold it once into a triangle. Tie a very small knot into the corner, and put that knot under your chin. Take the free ends and tie them together behind your head. Old motorcycle trick to keep cold off your face, makes a form fitting face mask.

.

Grainger, for one, carries a multitude of beard covers (google), but seels them in groaa amount for industrial apps.

I suppose a white example could be camo/dyed.

I would think one'd need to have the ability to be tightly drawn, in order to keep the bowstring from snagging it.

Optionally, a camo balaclava in a mesh or solid fabric might suffice. (IIRC, Cabela's also has them)

Do you know if that comes in olive drab or camo?

I thought how Khal Drogo did his beard in the Game of Thrones looks like it would work for bow work.
