H.M. Pope Schuetzen-style Winchester High Wall (Not mine...)
Dang! Like I said, this one isn't mine...
But I will get to shoot this one very soon, since a very close friend has just added it to his collection!
He's been on the hunt for a older Schuetzen-style .22 single-shot for many years now, and he sure stumbled onto a good one! (I am quite sure the Double-Income-No-Kids lifestyle [and you know what that acronym spells!] helped make this a reality for him when he finally found it...)
Some not-too-great cell phone pix follow below, but he says it is even better in person! Can't wait to see it, and especially to try it out offhand. Sure hope she shoots as good as she looks -- and as well as she "should", given her special provenance.
Some details include:
* A nice Unertl scope (I have no details on that yet)
* It has a 21+3/4” gain-twist barrel (with an excellent bore)
* Barrel is stamped "H.M. Pope" from March, 1911
* Original Winchester lever has the rare Pope-style finger grips added
* Has Winchester double-set triggers
* Soule tang sight (mint)
* Pope-style Palm rest and Schuetzen-style butt
* Gorgeous wood & checkering
Here's the requisite eye candy... Enjoy! Tight groups to all.

Yes indeedy very very nice but I don't understand all of the elevation adjustment on the tang sight for any ranges a 22 match would be shot at...

Just because that sights on a 22LR at the moment doesn't mean it couldn't have been used on a 32-40 or 38-55 at some point .Ben_Rumson wrote: Yes indeedy very very nice but I don't understand all of the elevation adjustment on the tang sight for any ranges a 22 match would be shot at...
Besides it takes a good amount just to get above the barrel hammer etc .
Personally if that were my rifle (and it's not) I would remove the globe and venier sights while using the scope .

That is a piece of history..........very nice. You say the bore is excellent....how excellent? Just wondering how well past owners took care of a masterpiece.
I like everything about that rifle except............the Unertl. Its like putting a 350 engine in a '32 Ford. That rifle calls for a contemporary Stevens or Lyman scope and that rifle is well worth the cost. ------------Sixgun

I can't help think of the J M Pyne stories I read as a kid when I see Mr. Popes name.

+1 That was my 1st thought. Would love to shoot a few groups at 100 and 200 yards with a rifle like that.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
