POLITICS - Ammo serial number law question

Post by Jeeps »

Do the ammo makers have an obligation to provide ammo to places they
consider to be "not profitable" or "logistically complicated"?

Lets say that Kalipornia and New Jork passed the law that every projectile
had to have a serial number like some folks want.

I am assuming the state and local forces will fall under this law also.

Would refusing to provide ammo to such a state be legal or possibly help the cause?

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

No one has to sell their product to anywhere they don't want to.

HOWEVER, they can't tell a Wholesaler that they can't sell there - unless they tell the wholesaler that they will no longer sell to THEM if they sell to, say, the BATFE.

Only Barrett has had the fortitude to do such a thing with their product. When one considers just how much ammo even a small police department uses/purchases in one year (as discussed on this forum), that's a lot of sales volume to abandon.

Sadly, yes, because MOST gun makers and gun sellers (and ammunition I'm sure likewise) have no corporate 'principles' - they would sell to the MidEast Terrorists and not the U.S. Citizen if that's what our government told them to do.

If Barrett made the kinds of guns I like (and can afford) to shoot, I'd buy nothing but Barrett's, until the other companies got the idea. After seeing Colt and Ruger fall all over each other sucking up to the government so they'd keep their lucrative contracts, I lost all respect for those two companies.

The other issue is we've 'federalized' all our police and sheriff's so much that not selling to them but not denying our soldiers would be logistically difficult. Every county sheriff has to have a 'swat' team and full auto toys for their boys these days. Seems to me if they need that kind of firepower, they should be asking the local citizens for help, and let US bring the big toys.

Here's my take on all of this:

-- These proposed ammunition serialization laws also included reloading components.

-- Such legislation is the "death by a thousand cuts" approach.

Wasn't it one of the executives of Handgun Control who said words to the effect that you don't need to win every lawsuit, just introduce enough to financially break your opponent or make them agree to your terms to stop the litigation?

-- Introducing such laws & ordinances by the various States, counties, municipalities, etc. It takes money, time, & effort to stop these things. & just because a bill or proposed ordinance dies one year for various reasons, you can just about bet the farm that it will be re-introduced the next session under a different name.

-- These anti-firearms/ammunition schemes, more than likely have an "exemption" for law enforcement to placate the chiefs of police, the public, etc.

-- One or several companies could always refuse to do business in areas passing such legislation. But that would only forward the aims of the anti-firearms groups, as that is exactly what the anti-firearms advocates want: no ammunition/firerams sales or make it/them very difficult to obtain.

-- There are far too many US firearms owners who vote for the politicos who introduce & support such legislation. & far too few support firearms advocacy groups.

If every US firearms owner &/or collector, hunter, etc., voted his/her sport, & provided NRA & other such groups w/ financial support, we wouldn't have this mess on our hands.

i've said it before and i'll say it again:

a boycott of selling ammo, equipment/services/training to law enforcment agencies will be the only thing that will get the attention of "legislators".

the way the laws are intended is: "supply us the means to enforce suppressive laws against you..." ...duhhhhh...

and i personally beilieve that even LE should not have full-auto weapons.

If you read the small print, you'll find that in some cases, LE and Military purchases are exempt from the hoops the rest of us plebians have to jump thru.

And, Donw, I'm also glad you don't make the rules. When the perps faced by LEOs on the street have autos, to deny them access also, is like climbing into the ring with Tyson and one arm tied behind yer back... yer gonna end up missing an ear!

This trash has been introduced in CT as well. I mailed 57 letters yesterday.
Idiots. Think of the work involved in recording God only knows how many bullets & who bought them. Theyre used once & thats it so most of us will use literraly thousands a year. Theres no way for me to insure the ammo I bought has the correct numbers on them. Will I be required to load bulk bullets in numerical order? What about lead bullets? I cant see a number stamped into a lead bullet base surviving intact. Will lead bullets be illegal?

I'd like to see them enforce it. Heck, they can't enforce registration of the guns or of the criminals (parolees, sex offenders).

I agree in the sense that THEY are supposed to request permission from their SUPERIORS (i.e. their employers, the civilians) as to just what guns and ammunition they may carry at any given time. THEY NEED TO REMEMBER THAT THEY DON'T 'GIVE' PERMISSION TO CIVILIANS to own or carry guns, despite popular twisting of the laws.

Don't get me wrong, I support most LEO's, and gladly would give them the keys to a .50 M2 if and when they needed it for a LEGITIMATE purpose (not just to drug raid some pot smoker or person who built a cabin on a 'wetland', or had a sear fail on their AR). Still, so many LEO's want to take the civilians' guns away, that I think THOSE LEO's should have to go out on the street with nothing but a water pistol, because I will NEVER respect any LEO who believes in enforcing 'gun control' as it ultimately accomplishes nothing constructive, but only leads to genocide.

All they need to do is a Stalinesque 'selective' enforcement - that is enough to stifle political opposition.

We have a 2nd Amendment to ensure the Govt. WE GIVE the power to run
the country doesn't get carried away and subjugate us.

Any part of the Govt. that can operate within our borders is NOT supposed to
be able to out-gun it's citizenry. That's why our military wasn't supposed to
be able to operate withing our borders.

Now it seems they can, and we have invited other countries to be able to come
in to suppress "the people", sorry I misspoke, to "keep order".
______________________________________________

I may not have seen every instance of criminals using automatic weapons,
but the few I've seen seemed the reason the LEO's were outgunned was
they were using medium caliber pistol ammunition.

One well placed round from a rifle would have taken care of any of the episodes
I am familiar with. When they stopped the two in Kali it was with semi-auto
rifles from a gunshop that were legal for civilians to buy.

Remember that LEO's are people just like us. So aren't politicians, even though
they don't act that way.

The laws are supposed to apply to ALL Americans EQUALLY, don't let people
tell you otherwise.

No, I don't believe they should have fully auto weapons at all.
