POLITICS - Which of us are leaving a legacy?
I see the young people (voters! ) now who have no clue about life before high taxes, intrusive regulations, and stifling political correctness, and it is worrisome for the future.
I don't ask the question because I'm doing a survey, or need answers, but to provoke some introspection - who among us will really leave a legacy?
We don't all have children, but we are all around somebody's children who need to hear 'our' side of things. Not just the levergun/cowboy part, although that is integral with the self-reliant, freedom-loving, and non-parasitic version of mankind who formed our nation.
Are you all taking young people out shooting?
Are you taking the time to educate them in the REAL world vs. the socialist nonsense they are taught in school?
Will your kids/grandkids be staunchly pro-gun, pro-freedom, and able to deflect the constant pressure of their anti-freedom peers and teachers?
Are you going the extra mile and helping to influence OTHER people's kids, or other ADULTS? Too many live the lives of superficial urban consumerism, oblivious to the concept of freedom, and entirely ignorant of firearms and their practical utility, recreational fun, and all-important sociopolitical stabilization.
If WE don't educate them, NBC, CNN, and the schools Obama/Clinton want to run will...
Anyway, I just wanted to get people thinking, and hopefully making sure they are sharing their knowledge and life experience with the younger generation who will replace us all too soon. I've seen some photos of fine young kids here who sure as heck LOOK 'pro-gun' and I assume they probably 'get it' when it comes to history, politics, and the human condition.
We need LOTS more of those kids, so take your kids/grandkids/nephews/nieces out shooting, and invite co-workers, church members, etc. out to shoot along with their kids. Do it often, and educate them in the process.

"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

AJMD429,
May I also mention that we need to make sure our children and grandchildren realize that our forefathers gave us something NO OTHER nation has.... and that is the RIGHT of it's population to maintain firearms as a NATIONAL law/right. I do not see the Supreme Court, overturning the new ruling that the District of Columbia can NO LONGER prevent it's citizens from owning handguns in a legal manner. It should be VERY evident that the rising crime rate there was in fact due to the ban which people using a knee-jerk, non-sensible idea for lowering crime, were responsible for implementing. Do you know who Carl Rowan is?? If not, please google him and see what a Washingtonian, who felt he knew what was best for his city...did, thinking as an intellectual(?) he was above the law. Take a minute and look. Thanks for putting up with my rantings.

We are responsible for leaving the same legacy of freedom and rights given to us for our children and grandchildren.

My seven year old son recently told his grandma that he doesn't do anything his dad doesn't do.
I'm leaving as much of a legacy as I can.

We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand, of overwhelming power on the other.

Me too. One of the reasons I'm a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts!
The anti's attack gun shows and hunting specifically to reduce the numbers of the next generation of firearms enthusiasts. If young people don't care and don't have a personal connection to their rights, they won't bother defending them. Heck - they will let them go without a fight...
Also why I am paying for my son's NRA life membership, and will begin doing so for my daughter soon.

Dave,
It's good to see you're teaching those girls to enjoy themselves. It looks like at least one of them can shoot too.
Pharmseller,
I realized a long time ago what a big responsibility it is to have kids. I was out on visitation one time making calls with the pastor. We were talking to a man that was very hard to talk to. We were trying to explain to him his need for salvation. When it seemed like the pastor was getting no where he turned his attention to the man's son who had been playing with some cars on the floor. The preacher said son, how about you? Would you like to go to heaven when you die? The boy looked up and said, nope. The preacher said son you mean to tell me that you don't want to go to heaven when you die? The boy again said nope, I want to go where my daddy goes.

Recently talked to the wife about how I wanted the place divided when I'm gone.
The kids get a 99 year lease on predetermined parcels on the outside edge.
The grandkids get the center part with the valley, creek, shooting range, etc. as a common use area.
It can't be sold or divided, I figure the grandkids need a place to shoot a squirll an pee on a tree.
Is that what you're talkin about?

grit yer teeth an pull the trigger
I'll tell you flat out I AM BRAGGING ON MY KIDS! They make me so proud and humble. They will be better men than I ever was.
I don't believe my wife & I take a back to seat to anyone ......my kids are straight A students who have wrestled with learning disabilities.
They are both above average athletes who are known more for their work ethic and leadership than their raw ability.
The oldest boy is starting high school next fall and has layed out two possible life paths........he hopes to go to the US Naval Academy, go into the Marine corps, and then serve as a physical therapist with a psy degree working with reurning vets. His back up plan is to join the Marines and serve 6 years with the most professional outfit he can find (MEU, ACR, or ?) and then go into the reserves while he goes to college and reactivate and work at a Naval Hospital.
My youngest who is 11 is also thinking about the military as a career but he thinks flying helicopters in 'dust offs' or search & rescue is more appealing. He seems to be favoring the Coast Guard.
Yes I know there is a long way to go and lots of potential missteps but too often I have seen them step up in amazing ways.

My dad introduced me into the shooting sports. I can remember using a 22 bolt-action before I started school. As I got older, the power and weight of the guns increased. My father and I went shooting at least twice per week… sometimes every other day… and always on Saturday. He would not shoot on Sunday. I asked several times. Every adult male I knew went hunting at some time or another each year. By the time I graduated high school, I owned two 22-rifles, two pistols, and an Argentine Mauser, which I reloaded shells for at least every other week.
Then I got married and started raising and providing for my own family. Money got tight and providing for family was a priority, so my hobby got put on the back burner and nearly stopped. Although I still went with my father groundhog hunting at least once per year. It’s tough trying to raise 5 kids on a teacher salary in the South. The misses stayed at home and looked after the kids until the baby started school. We wanted them to have OUR morals and values… not someone else’s. I took the kids shooting when they were old enough (before elementary school age), but only once per year when we visited relatives in KY. The kids seemed to like it, but one afternoon is not enough.
I officially retired from teaching three years ago, and started adding to my collection… mostly levers and SA pistols, thanks to you guys. I have been taking my only son, and a couple former students to the range quite often, and I usually ask my girls. The former students I speak of are all in different stages of college now, but they still give me a call, or send an email when they intend to go to a range nearby. I join them as much as I can. My baby girl was home from UNC over Christmas. She decided to go with us. I let her use 3 different pistols. We were amazed at how accurate she was. I think her favorite was the Ruger SA 44-40. She took the target back to college… to hang on the door of her dorm room. I think the other daughters are becoming interested, after the success of little baby sister. On my last trip to Tulsa, I bought my oldest daughter some ammo and a one-year pass to the local range near her home. She and the son-in-law go quite often now. Soon they will start preparing 2 of my grandkids.
I know most of you have better stories to tell, but I just like people to know that I am trying to get young folks interested in the shooting sports, protecting our 2nd Amendment Rights, and our way of life.
