I reckon his belly 'smarts' though..
Sure wouldn't wanna try it with anything even marginally heavier than a pingpong ball..
Large surface area and Very Low sectional density made survival possible...

A typically 'sedate' .45 Colt bullet loafs along at, say, 880 fps.. That is 600 m.p.h... And we know what kind of damage it is capable of..

Now there's a professor who is able to keep the class awake and engaged! You don't find many with that willingness to throw heart and soul into teaching science. And he'd obviously done the math and knew from the low momentum figure that he wasn't in serious danger from the fast ping-pong ball. He gets "two thumbs up" from me.
