My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
The wife hated it when I cleaned my rifles at the kitchen counter. There were scratches put in the Formica top, under-sink cupboard space lost to gun cleaning supplies, and worst of all, she didn't like the smell of Hoppes! No, I'm not kidding! I can't understand not liking that smell, but the fact is she doesn't.
In an effort to promote harmony and peace, I bought a nifty wooden work bench from Harbor Freight:

I got an additional 20% off with a coupon from a Harbor Freight flyer. I assembled the bench and added a set of plastic locking roller wheels (also from Harbor Freight) so I could easily move the bench around if I needed to. My Tipton Best Gun Vice was bolted to the top and all my tools and cleaning supplies were put in the drawers and on the bottom shelf. I now have it in my own room near the gun safe and it works great for cleaning my rifle bores:

Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
That looks great, Shasta. I've seen those advertised: maybe I should pick one up -- it would be lots better than the little plastic table I swiped out of the wife's sewing room.

I had a cleaning bench that looked like that once. Once! Nice set up.
Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
Shasta, I have been thinking of getting one of those for a long time. They are $139 around here, with coupon. What are the dimensions, length, height, width?
Thanx, dennie

Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
My twin got one of those -- for gun cleaning and shop work -- and he really likes it. Says it's "a whole lotta bench for the money".

Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
I've got the same bench in my reloading room. I love it.
Works great in the middle of the room when two folks are working on the same rifle....or someone is observing

I like your Winchester cartridge board on the wall. I bought mine back in the early seventies.------6

Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
When I set this bench cleaning system up, I wasn't sure how I wanted to position the gun vice, so I just pretty much centered it on the bench top. Now I am finding that since the majority of my rifles have longer barrels, the muzzle of the rifle being cleaned tends to be very close to or even beyond the edge of he bench, causing drips and fine spray from cleaning brushes and patches to get on the new laminate flooring. That'll definitely get me in trouble if the wife finds out! I need to move the vice back a little so the gun muzzle is still over the top of the bench, where I can catch any drips on a cloth laid out on the bench top.

Re: My New Rifle Cleaning Bench
You can use the "Bench Dogs" that are included with the bench to hold the gun vise in place. Or you could cut a couple pieces from the wood dogs (The bench comes with both wood and steel dogs) and attach them to the bottom of the vise so they simply fit into the dog holes.
