+4 F above this morning, as compared to a few days ago when it was (-18 below).

I did find some good news in all this though...

Yeah it's the first morning it has peeked above zero in what seems like forever.

Ha! I like that!

Wow! With that I imagine there's lots of betting going on as the games of "pocket pool" are so common among democrats. :D --------------6

Was 21 here this morning !

So I went out and took down treestands . Better to do it while the grounds frozen and then no muddy trails to deal with !

It's supposed to get in the mid 60's here tuesday and wednesday !

Had thoughts of still going out for a squirrels and a rabbit with my grandfathers old 10 gauge but might have to rethink that one if it's that warm .

We're having some typical January temperatures right now. It' s -47 and could be headed down to -52 later tonight. We could use some 4 above right about now.

OK, I'll clam up. We have humidity and cedar pollen to contend with.
But temperate winter weather is why we live in south Texas.

even in north texas, Wichita falls, it is unusually warm. near 80's today. Beautiful, although worrisome as not so far along into winter we are.

We'll have a big rain and 40 degrees tonight, then back into the 60s for the weekend.
we're going bike-fishing.

My buddy is taking his refurbished '72 GMC RV on it's maiden voyage (smoke test) to the Guadalupe tailwater. It's not far, and my truck is the chase vehicle. But we'll be bringing bicycles and packing our rods and waders down river road.
also going to burn some cow, cigars and scotch

Griff, here is how we beat the summer heat - I call them cypress tunnels.

I just checked the outside thermometer and it read 76 degrees. I am worried this weather will make it too warm for the peach trees to produce this year. I would gladly trade some of our warm weather for some of the Alaskan cold. But, only enough to get it down to freezing or maybe a little below here. Fruit trees require some cold weather in order to produce fruit for the year, and it has not been cold enough here for that to happen. On the other hand, I have not had to run a heater or air conditioner either one for a while. My electric bill is going to be quite low.

It's 76 degrees and we're still fighting mosquitos. It doesn't look like we will have a winter this year.

PS. bulldog1935, the picture of the "Cypress Tunnels" looks just like the river in the movie Rio Lobo; the scene where Sgt. Tuscarora knock John Wayne off his horse. 8)

It's about 112 in the shade down here.

If I ever think about moving to the USA it would have to be Texas, cause I don't like the cold.

A bit of trivia if anybody is curious:
A brass monkey is the brass ring that cannonballs are stacked on. Because the brass shrinks faster in the cold than the iron does, the cold freezes the balls off the brass monkey
