8x68s

Post by Marlin32 »

Finally shot my new to me Weatherby "side lever" 8x68mm.
It doesn't seem to like the Barnes TSX bullets, group was over 1" and a 1/4 at a 100yd
But the good news is, the Nosler Partition's were about 1/2-5/8" group.

I have another Barnes load to try, maybe it will be tighter, also have another NP load to shoot yet.

Like shooting the rifle though, not near the hammer I thought it might be, I was surprised by the recoil honestly. Heavy gun though. Like the trigger pull too. I think it will do just fine.

Sounds nice. Mark V or Vanguard? Wood stocked or other? Scope? What is your intended purpose?

it´s a wonderful, very "modern" round ... except it dates to around 1935 ...

stock up on cases ... not many manufacturers there!

Enjoy!

Cases I have now are Norma. Always on the look out though!!
I have not shot that many Barnes TSX bullets, and zero at game (although have seen results of one) think they are ok bullets, but have also read alot about being very finicky from rifle to rifle. Such may be the case with mine. But no matter, the Nosler Partition is tough to beat, and will do the job just fine.

I was going to go with the bullet/load that gave me the best accuracy. So far, it is the NP

I do need to raise the comb a bit. The Cheek piece and comb are perfect for the open sights on the gun, but not for the scope. Ordered a Beartooth comb raiser, put my eye right where it needs to be. Keep me from hurting my cheek bone too.

Now just have to settle on an elk trip. Broadmouth Canyon? Or Flying J in Utah for a spike hunt?????
