Did your Christmas wish come true?

Post by RIHMFIRE »

Mine comes true just about every year....just being with Family!
We always go to Grandma's for Chrismas eve dinner...
This year, Stuffed Roladin, dumplings, red cabbage and salad...
and chacolate swirl pound cake with melted german chocolate
over the top...I am still stuffed! OMG was it goooooooood!

Christmas morning I get up early and watch John Waynes "The Three Godfathers"
on the new 46" LED tv...My wife insisted that we get a new tv and
catch up to the 21st century. Our gift to each other...
The old 1985 tv is now in the garage....near the reloading area
I watch that movie every Christmas morning...and cook breakfast...
Great movie! great story...

But,... the best part of Chistmas is yet to come....
The entire florida side of the family comes to my house...
We cook about 4 feet of beef tenderlion on the barbie,
cook 2 small turkeys and have all the traditional fixins....
There nothing better that having the family.....
and good friends together....

Hope all your wishes come true today....
Merry Christmas guys

Yes.

My wife and children are in good health.

I'm home and got to spend time with them and others in my extended family.

And my job is secure, for now. I was really sweating that it would be eliminated this month.

Can't ask for anything more (for myself).

Yes; all I really had in mind were mashed potatoes with gravy. I realized I don't particularly care for the other stuff, but mashed potatoes with gravy is IT.

I heated up the chicken broth and started stirring in flour and corn starch, and unfortunately got lumps. I decided to quit with the stove, and set it on a cup warmer and forgot about it for a while. With the very low heat, the lumps dissolved and I had perfect gravy after about an hour. Short time later I had the mashed potatoes ready, and it was fantastic.

Spent much of the day recording music, take after take on ukulele and harmonica. Later I'll edit that stuff, but it was very pleasant.

Yep - another +1 good times, general health, food and grog with northern New Mexico family. Chilly but free from anything too bad. Almost a white Christmas! (Christmas Eve - yes). Jaunts in the hills in the crisp new snow with the the four legged family members a hoot and good for my ever-aching back. We (they) discovered a fresh set of deer tracks where deer were not normally spotted... emanating from a juniper underneath which it was apparent it had bedded down judging by the one-way tracks (no tracks to the spot, only from--so must've snowed overnight while our hoofed friend slept--and the pups flushed several cottontails out of deeper snow. Nothing like smelling the fresh snow-air of the Southwest high country and romping with the critters!

All'n'all nothing to really complain about. l've got my personal, financial and health issues I grumble to myself about regularly and some more days than others, but in reality nothing like a lot have...and my thoughts and wishes are out to all those truly doing without or hurting in any way at this time of year.

Yep, snow on Christmas morning, kids home, everyone healthy and happy, and the kids think their jobs are great (of course we think retirement is great too). Per tradition, our neighbors came over for Christmas dinner so we had a sit down for 8. Great food, great company, lots of laughter, lots of stories, and a few tall tales.

gak - where in Northern NM? My wife was born and raised in Farmington. Her family still lives there and we visit once or twice a year. Really great and interesting country up that way. I especially enjoy the drive thorough the Bisti Badlands on the drive turning north from I-40 at Albuquerque.

GoatGuy - Gallup - my western clan has lived there for thirty + years. Can be a rough town as you know with a myriad of problems, but good folks abound here as anywhere if you look or are open to it. But yes, the whole Four Corners region is interesting country, and I like that Farmngton/Aztec area in particular--a bit "kinder-n-gentler" lay of the land there with the river running through it and such (and being the gateway to the Colorado San Juans which I like even better!). All'n'all it's great, open-feeling country. But, I'm reminded daily in my biannual holiday visit--becoming more annual in recent years--when it's 20 with a wind chill of 5, not many places to hide here! I'm also reminded what a wimpy flatlander I've become!

It can be a rough place, some years ago I took the girls up for tribal council.
As we stopped for gas & bathroom break the line to the girls bathroom was shorter than the guys???????
This never happens so as I asked what was going on, this alcohol enhanced native fellow said his friend went in and has not come out for some time.
When we got the door open, without damaging it , we found his friend passed out on floor, after we got him up and moving they informed me they were going to tribal council tonight.
I told them if they went to council that night, it would be their last night on earth.

It was the worst Christmas of my life I had to have my 11+ year old Cocker Spaniel put down Christmas day and it has devastated me. He was my consolation when my Mother died and I used him for a crutch as when my Brother died. When Gunny died I had no crutch and it hurts. Folks say get an other dog I never will have an other one and go through the pain like this again. The house was so quiet and lonely I bought a parakeet yesterday just for some hopefully noise and some thing to talk to and to distract me from my dogs passing. He had been getting really skinny even though he ate good so I changed dog food well then he started with bouts of diarrhea off and on and passing red blood. I thought it might have been the dog food change at first but that only last a day or two this has been going on for over a month. Chrismas day he started passing blood all over the place and not eating and just laying quiet next to me and when I pet him he just kinda groaned. I knew it was time but it does not make it any easier. The tears come even as I write this.

Jh45gun - another one here, I am so sorry. That is very rough. I've been through it too many times - springers in my case. they sure do become more than just a part of you. While I did find another pup(s) did help greatly--"they're right about that--my most recent long drought of ownership is due in part to an accumulation of the feelings you're going through combined with some other things going on in my life. I do feel I'm overdue dipping my toe back in the water. It does get better my friend, but I know it sure doesn't seem like it now. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks I am 60 and I just cannot go through this again not the puppy training or the really bad grief that I am feeling now. Where I live we supposedly can only have a 30 pound dog.( Stupid rule!) For a hunting dog that pretty much means a small spaniel if you want a bird dog. Gunny would retrieve and water retrieve but I could not get him to pick up and retrieve a bird. He wanted to but just would not do it no matter what i tried. He would pick a bird wing as a puppy and fetch it but would never pick up a whole bird. Force fetching did not work he got really mad about that :o So I accepted him as he was and he became the best companion I ever had. I had some labs and Chessies that were close but they did not have the charisma he did or the heart he did. He was one of a kind which is why this is so hard. I am sorry I am going on about this guys but I feel if I let it out and talk about it the pain may go away quicker. At least I hope it will.

Sorry to hear of your loss, jh45gun.

Last Christmas I prayed to not look too sick from a bone marrow transplant in front of my girls.

This year's wish has been truly a blessing. Loving family that had a wonderful time, remission, and young children who are decent and brave and always answer that Christmas is about baby Jesus.

Sorry to hear it. I had to put down one of my Mals the day after Christmas last year. I was glad to have the other one, but I lost him a couple months later. I got another mal from a rescue shortly afterwords, shes a great dog. She was 3 when I got her, and had had a rough time before, but has been one of the best natured dogs I've ever had. Don't just limit yourself to a pup if you aren't up to doing a pup. There's a LOT of great dogs needing a good person.

Well lets see I lived thru it so that unto itself is a good thing !

No one close to me passed over the holiday another good thing .

But my Xmas wish is to make it to Manila with no hitches in early February so we have a few more days before I know if my wish comes true .
