Rossi 45-70 lever gun is dissapointing

Post by FatJackDurham »

I took a look at a Rossi 45-70 Rio Grande in Dicks the other day. I have to say, I am surprised and dissapointed. The barrel seemed rediculously thin, in fact, I think the mag tube is fatter than the barrel, which is pretty unattractive. The wood didn't seem that good either, although, I am not sure what makes nice wood. It almost seemed like plastic to me.

The gun itself seemed very light, too. I was surprised. My rossi 357 feels solid, with nice wood grain and all, but this gun seemed almost like a toy.

I guess your local Dick's Sporting Goods didn't get the corporate word - the chain has pulled all sporting rifles from sale, since the CT elementary school shootings a week ago.

I'm not sure that the all of Dick's are pulling all the firearms. The news report we saw here was that the Dick's closest to elementary school shooting pulled all their guns but that the other Dick's only stopped selling their AR15s.

Dicks said they would stop selling "Modern Sporting Rifles". Maybe that is EBRs only?

Saw a new Rossi .45-70 in Billings yesterday..

As expected, I was completely underwhelmed...

The .45-70 Marlin 'Cowboy' guns are also surprisingly LIGHT in the barrel, I guess due to the large bore. I'd swear mine has a barrel made of aluminum.

Shoots fine though...
