For you .410 shooters

Post by Rusty »

I seem to remember hearing about this guy but I can't remember where...

Anyway I found a link to this sight on another forum http://pacotools.com/tool_discriptions

Paco is now making loading tools for .410's and 28 ga shotgun shells. This is right on time, I just ordered a 28 gauge. My local hardware sells 28 gauge shells for $19 a box for Winchester AA's.

Interesting...410 & 28GA shells are too darn expensive.

I might be tempted this winter to pick up a set for the 410 Contender barrel.

I bought a 28 gauge H&R topper. I been getting shells for $11 a box. What did you buy? My little gun weighs less than 5lbs and you really feel it when it goes off. It even caught Pitchy off guard  Anyways it'll be interesting to see ow this goes. 3leg

LEE Loader in .410 is now rarer than hen's teeth so this 410 loader a viable option. I was fortunate enough to find a .410 LEE Loader for $40.00.

I'm thinking $20 a box for 28 ga is a bit steep. I bought the 5th edition of the Lyman shotshell manual and have been looking through it.

One thing I see is a lot of people complaining about 3" .410 shells. They claim the 2.5" shells give a better pattern. I'm wondering if backing off the powder charge wouldn't help the pattern some.

Once upon a time Lee made one of their little 'mallet-kits' for 12 gauge, and I got one, and then I found a .410 one, and got that as well. Since I shoot not much shotgun, they worked well-enough for my needs.

I don't think either Lee kit is still available, so if Paco's kit is similar, I say GET ONE while you can. 8)

I've got 2 of the old Lee Loaders for my 410s, but I'd be interested in trying out Paco's tool(s).

Since my 28ga is a ca.1911 Ithaca SxS, I'll stick with the special, low-powered commercial loads from RST ($9/box of 25, locally).

I spread my shotgun shooting (hunting, actually) amongst 3-4 shotguns during a typical hunting season (two.410's, a 28ga, two 20ga's, & a 12ga), so no single gun gets anything like even medium, nevermind hard, use.

I don't shoot target/games anymore.............................

The long shot column crushes the lower pellets. I did fine with just 1/2oz loads all the time. Nothing wrong with 3", just don't expect it make a 40yd goose gun out of a 410.

I tried all speeds but the best thing to help is a plastic wrap to keep the shot off the bore, just how Winchester comp 410 shells use to be!

I always favoured small shot, a pellet in the head and or neck is worth any amount of larger ones in a body!

Actually for fast bolting rabbit and pheasant the spready nature can help.
