I am now officially old - Picture added

Post by awp101 »

Around 0900 this morning, our first grandchild was born!

All concerned are doing well and now She Who Puts Up With Me and I are waiting patiently for next weekend to head up there. And if you believe the "patient" bit, I have a bridge for sale...

congraulations! WHAT DO WANT TO BE CALLED? I WANT TO BE CALLED GRANDPA OR GRANDDADDY. I'M ORIGINALLY FROM S.C BUT LIVE IN MD. AROUND HERE THEY ARE CALLED POP-POP. My nephew couldn't say grandma when he first starting talking. So, he wound up saying gummy, and the name stuck. Guess whatever they called me will be fine. :D

Congratulations! I hear the worst part of being a grandfather is having to sleep with an old grandma.

One time I was sitting at the counter with a friend of mine when both of his daughters came in, both in the family way. After talking for a few minutes one of the girls asked daddy, when the babbies get here what do you want them to call you? He thought about it a minute then said, how about uncle Joe?

Thanks guys! I started getting the emails and pics on my phone around 0930 and was pretty useless until after lunch...
rossim92 wrote:congraulations! WHAT DO WANT TO BE CALLED? I WANT TO BE CALLED GRANDPA OR GRANDDADDY.
Not sure yet. Technically I'm the step-dad so I'll let the two biological Grandfathers pick first. My fallback will be Pop which is what I call my maternal Grandfather (and might be my choice regardless).
damienph wrote:Congratulations Grand Pa!! I am envious. My only child (son) has been married for almost 4 years and nothing yet...
Fear not! They've been married 6-8 years (yeah, bad memory  ) and this was a challenge to be sure. She has some issues and this took a lot of patience and medical procedures to happen. Not to mention more than a few prayers and blessings.

Don't put it past me to do something like that! I've done my dead level best to be the crazy Uncle in the family so the move to "eccentric Grandfather" shouldn't be an issue....

BTW, I realized I didn't give the name. His name is Carson. It may not get the familial seal of approval, but I might just call him Kit.

Congratulations on the grandson.

Officially, you aren't old until you have great-grandchildren. I know because I have four great-grandsons and expect the fifth in October.

Congratulations! I truely am jealous!

Neither of my two daughters want children, so I will never know the joy of being a grandparent. It is an extremely sore point with me, as I would make a really good Grandpa.

I'm not worried about them, it's SWPUWM. At times she doesn't understand my humor or logic so there's a lot of  from that direction.

SHASTA, I bet you would.
damienph wrote: That's what I am worried about; my daughter-in-law is a HS teacher and doesn't seem very anxious to have any kids of her own.
Yeah, that would put me off kids for a while as well!

That in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing but he needs to go in with open eyes, his head on a swivel and prepared for more "baggage" than he can imagine. The boys were 6 and 12 when I married SWPUWM so I know of whence I speak...

Not entirely sure yet. I keep thinking about one of those Crickets to start with as "his" first but I still have the Savage MKII his Dad bought when he turned 18 and I have enough old .22s and small bores to take him each step of the way without having to buy anything. Once he's big enough though, the BL22 will make an appearance.

I have a friend who had a son when he was 17, and his son had a son when he too was 17 so he turned grampa at age 34. :o
