Beware of Old Guys...

Post by Old Ironsights »

Lessons learned.

1. A gun is better than no gun.
2. You need more than a 380acp.
3. Double tap.
4. If the Criminal survives he is still out of jail the next day.
5. Watch out for the old guys.

From the news reports I've seen the other patrons were grateful for the actions taken by the gunowner.

It's enough gun, but not enough placement, It looked like some one handed shots. Those little .380 HPs put nice holes in stuff....

Most likely those fine young men will get out of jail, avail themselves of some public assistance for the 'unfortunate', and swap the food or whatever 'aid' they get (or drugs with artifically high prices we support with our taxpaid 'war on drugs') for some guns, then go shoot down the poor old guy. If he actually gets one of them before he goes down it will be one less moocher in the world.

I've read comments on several forums about his not having enough gun. Hmm, bad guys zero, good guy two. Seems like he had plenty. And, remember he is "old" (I'm almost that old) and maybe he is only comfortable with the recoil/weight of the .380. It's always easy to sit back in the comfort of your chair and pick apart the actions on someone who has a split second to make a decision and then carry it out.

I say, give the fellow a medal and free coffee for life.

Blaine's got a point. If this guy was possibly not a regular shooter, and not comfortable with a larger caliber, then he likely wouldn't have had any gun with him on this day. He very likely saved some people from ... who knows what ? I'm darn glad he had his piece.

As for the little LCP's, an old friend of mine has an LCP which I nicknamed "the angry chihuahua." That thing is nasty. - DixieBoy

Agreed. Mine snaps a bit too.

The gentleman had the courage to take action. That's rare.

I'm glad he wasn't injured. We need experienced fellows like him around.

Well, he stopped the action and prevented any innocent people getting injured or killed, doesnt matter not what size cartridges were in his pistol.

Rule #1: Have a gun.

At 72 with a bad back I can tell you there are many of us geezers out here who can no longer tolerate the weight of a .45 on our belts or in a shoulder holster. Little LCP's etc are a real blessing for us.

I think we all like the mans action. In this case he is a lucky hero. There are many areas of the country that the same act under the same circumstances would get him charged and break him defending himself.
I hope he doesnt make the mistake that zimmerman just did by giveing a tv interview.

I always been told to watch out for old men, they can and will hurt you. Reckon they can scare you right good too. A few weeks from 74 but I can still carry and hit with a big pistol. I reckon that feller meant business.

Its been said, "Never pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight he will just kill you." I'd say this would be a good example of that. I'd say that he acted appropriately and considering that many law enforcement shootings these days involve many shots fired with some times no hits, I'd say two hits out of six shots (estimate of how many rounds most 380s hold) isn't too bad.

The only thing he should say is, "Officer I feared for my life. I want to speak with my attorney." Nothing else.

And it is too bad he wasn't in that movie theater in Colorado early this morning. That shooter was wearing body armor and used CS gas so stopping him with a .380 would be difficult.

Even more than the "experienced" fellows courage, it shows the downright cowardice of these two young punks. They're all bravado, struttin', and name callin' when they think they have the upper hand, but when the chips are down, and it's nut-cuttin' time, they run like the chicken stuff they are.

There, that oughta be good enough to pass the censors.

in WA-land shooting a fleeing dirtbag in the back is an invitation to judicial rape.
I was glad to see his enthusiasm, but think he would have been more effective doing an ad hoc dental job on those abcesses.
The problem is that they let them out on cheap bail after they used a gun in a crime. which proves that the law is on the side of the perps.

now I'm hearing the police-chief expert stating that a "citizen" could not have stopped the aurora shooter. BS honey.
a head shot is a head shot, deer, bear, or whatever. it does speak for a laser however, to make the eye-socket shot in the dark a little easier.
I told my wife again, the target is a line between the throat and eyeballs. You know, wind pipe, jugular veins, spinal column, gray cell, eyeballs.
It's way higher probability than "center mass" shots.

about the LCP, my wife shoots it and never complains about recoil.... what's the problem?

put some of these in it:

and fire for effect

After watching the security camera footage, there is no way this old feller will be charged with anything in the state of Florida. If you notice right before he fires, the perp with the pistol swings toward him with the old guy looking down his barrel. The old guy (not much older than me :D ) immediately fires. Self defense in my book.

As far as firing after them after the security camera shows them fleeing, my response is (through my attorney) "I was trying to ID them better and any accomplices/getaway car. The guy with the pistol pointed it at me. I continued to fire in self defense" Of course this isn't on the security camera so it is my word against his.
