Remington model 30

Suppose some of you have a Remington model 30 and would like to know how you like it?

Seen a picture of one today and was impressed with what looked like a very good, reliable gun. Sure had that old-time quality look to it.

I know it was based on the Enfield action and forget what I've read about this action. Smooth????

I know 30-06 is most common chambering for this gun and what I'd prefer but 257 Roberts would be nice but am sure would sell for much more.

Could the later single stage trigger be made decent? Is it extra heavy. The receiver looks large and very strong.

MY REMINGTON 30S EXPRESS WAS A 257ROBERTS. I HAD P.O. ACKLEY RE-CHAMBER IT TO 257ACKIMP BACK IN THE '60's. HE CHARGED ME TWELVE DOLLARS TO DO THIS. I DID IT BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL CHAMBER WAS DEFECTIVE AT IT'S REAR.
THE ORIGINAL BARREL IS ACCURATE ENOUGH TO BLOW UP BLACKBIRDS WELL BEYOND 200 YARDS.
I USED THE ORIGINAL STOCK FOR DEER HUNTING AND FIT A 'FRENCH WALNUT TARGET/VARMINT STOCK FOR VARMINT HUNTING TO ADD WEIGHT AND STABILITY OFF THE SANDBAGS.
I FITTED A CANJAR[?] TRIGGER TO IT SO LONG AGO NOW I CANNOT REMEMBER IF IT WAS A CANJAR OR THAT OTHER ONE THAT WAS HIGHLY POPULAR BACK WHEN.
THE REMINGTON MODEL 30 ACTION WAS, AND STILL IS, SUPERB.

I thought about getting one and reboring/rechambering to .35 Whelen (unless I could find one like that). I have a Williams FP for it...

I spent some time with one in 25 remington, the thing shot good, but dang it probably shoulda been mounted on a mtn howitzer carriage to get around with it. It was not a good rifle for jump shooting whitetail in the Black Hills scrub oak..

Actually the already having the sight might be a good change in tactic to slip a new gun by the keeper of the books.... She already knows there's lots and lots of ammo and brass in the boresden, and she also knows that sights are expensive little gadgets.... Sooo maybe the having the sight may help with the explanation of expenditures.... I I may try that one myself here shortly.. Thanks Hobie.

How do some of you compare the Remington model 30 with the sporterized Springfield bolt-action? I read they were both used in the First World War in their "military configuration." From what I read they are both very reliable and the model 30 might be a little heavier but possibly a little stronger action. Which one feeds and ejects the smoothest?

A friend of mine had a Springfield made into a hunting rifle and that makes me lean toward the Springfield. I'm guessing most would chose the Springfield.

getitdone...if I remember correctly the Model 30 is based on the Model 1917 of WWI fame....I have only handled one Model 30 and it was slick....
