Ever hear of a .44 long

Post by Rusty »

I had a fellow at work tell me his son in law went to the flea market and bought an El Tigre in what is marked as a .44 long. Would this be the same as a .44-40?

No Grilff, the one I had said 44 Long. Had a bright shiny bore and shot very well but was made of very soft steel. I shot CAS with it for a couple of years before I started using ffg and it seemed to stretch everything in it. At the last the bolt was overhanging the frame by 50 or 60 thousandths so I quit it.

Just thinkin', 'cause the .44-40 is known as the .44 Largo in Spain, where the "El Tigres" were made. The only 2 I've seen, 1 was remarked to .44-40 and the other rebarreled to .44 Mag. Both had come to the US from So. America.

It could be a 44 Evans Long. Not heard of in a 92 El-T but who knows ?

They use 44 mag case's to make the 44 Evans Long.
