You Can Call Me "Mr. Wheelweight"

Post by Sixgun »

Yep, Thats my new name. I guess you can lenghthen that to "Mr. Wheelweight/Tin Man". After a peek down the basement, that name can be lenghthened again to Mr. Wheelweight/Tin Man/Linotype Dude/Pure Lead Junky.

I tell 'ya, when a buddy drops over and says, "Yo dude, I figured you could use this junk", you should be thankful. I tell him, "Yea, just throw your trash by the fence and if you do it neatly, I won't charge you for your deposit." :D

Deposit huh? I'll deposit every one of those 1,500 pounds of wheelweights plus the 75 pounds of 50/50 bar solder right down the tubes of Winchesters, Marlins, Colts, Smith & Wessons, and a few old model Rugers. :D

Yep, I'm braggin' as my shooting needs are taken care of until................I'm dead? :D

On a serious note, I have been on the lookout for wheelweights and tin as the "green people" want to outlaw this stuff. Wheelweights are already being made from steel, zinc, and other "non-bullet making materials". I suggest you do the same, while you can.

No, it was not free, but it did cost me a picture or two of Ben Franklin plus an honor to keep the guy in ammo for some time.---------------------Sixgun

Pitchy, no, my other half is the "lead butt"--she's Italian and Olloger, no, I'm not a nice guy--just here on the board I pretend to be nice as you get more with a teaspoon of sugar than you do with a cupful of vinegar. :D Ha! you like that?

I am a grateful individual and ALWAYS show my appreciation of a good deed done by others by flashing the bucks and returning favors. I may be thrifty, but I sure as h*ll ain't cheap. Most of us anti-government and revolutionary types tend to help each other out. I'll drive right by a liberal in a Lexus that has a flat tire. :D

And JerryB--you bet. In the years to come, lead will be harder to get than gold. ------------------------Sixgun

As someone who has and produces gold I disagree with you six.
My close association with a plumber has left me well heeled with lead.
But is is VERY wise to accumulate like you have done.

We already moved my "stash" once - from house to rental house and are now preparing for the big move to our new home in Miss. - the lead hoard is a PITA...

Nice stash Mr. Wheelweight. I have six buckets of WW in the garage . Brother in law will deliver another couple of buckets this weekend (Service manager at a Ford dealer). I'm collecting what I can afford. I have plenty of sources just not enough money to buy them all.

Considering where you are it would cost me more to ship it here, I have no connections in the tire trade :(

Hey,hey......everything has a price. I don't run no museum. How does $35 an ounce sound? :D

You really don't need a tire connection. It can be bought reasonably at most any junkyard.----Sixgun

I had to sell about 1/2 of my stash when moving from IN to WY.

I'm down to about 1000lbs of clean ingots.

A lot.

But, it was all in raw WW. I kept the clean ingots. 1000lbs of WW is about eight 5gal buckets and I simply didn't have the room. If I would have had time to smelt them down to ingots I could have fit them into the truck (though the springs would have been about maxxed out...) but not raw in buckets.

I'm slowly rebuilding back stock. When I get my Lead Shed finished, I'll be back to being a casting fool.

Well, Mr. Wheelweight, that's quite a haul!

If I could set aside a stock like that, I'd consider it a lifetime supply.

The solder is especially welcome, isn't it? ;-)

Yes :D Saying that lead is like gold is a joke, but..........I'm not so sure on the solder thing. When my buddy Gunny was eyeing up my pile I politely told him to remove his eyes away from the tin. :D -------------Sixgun

A while back my wife brought me several hundred pounds of lead sheet from an x-ray lab that was being re-modeled. I smelted a bunch of it and added 50/50 bar solder to make it 20:1 or 30:1 but ran out of bar solder. Looked at a bunch of plumbing suppliers and body shops but could find no new bar solder. They tell me it's no longer made. Is this correct?

Trade that good soft sheet lead for WWs.

Muzzleloader types need pure lead for their balls.

M.M.,
From what I hear, its no longer used. It was used a lot in the auto body business but now they use something else, what, I don't know. As I know a lot of people, I am fortunate to have occasional "drop by's" with people dropping off lead, wheelweights and tin I'm forever loading ammo for my good buddies who drop by with tin. :D

Another good thing about the east is the constant supply of people who are drunks. These drunks buy lots of beer and many times, they stay drunk with their mouth to the tap. When these kegs wear out, the innards are stripped of their tin. :D See???? Drunks equal tin for me. :D ------------Sixgun gotta stay thinkin'

For some softer lead, get to know a roto-rooter man or cesspool guy.

I hate to think of the hundred if not thousands of pounds of lead we threw away over the years before I was casting.

When I built the addition on the house in Phoenix, I had to pull out an old lead waste water flange.
