I've been bad. 464 bad :)

Post by Panzercat »

Found somebody waving this around on the local Backpage.com-- A Davidson's Mossberg 464. 16.26 in, 5+1 firesights and marinecote. At $450 and hard to come by, I couldn't refuse. Haven't shot it up yet, but I like the compact form factor and actually don't mind the tang saftey (more so than marlin's easy to nudge crossbar button). The marlin seems to eject shells with more authority than the way they limply fall out of the Mossy, but I'll live. Can't wait to give it a go-go :D

I'm really hoping Mossberg can work the 464 into a nice lever gun. I'd love to have a .22 version.

They have a SPX .22 lever action listed on their website.

I'm leaving emails with them about making a 18" or 20", 38/357 and 44/44Mag along the lines of the Winchester '92 with synthetic, straight grip stocks and rubber butt pad, sling swivel attachments and good peep sights in an all weather non stainless (maybe camo) configuration. I did mention no muzzle brakes or flash hiders, AGH! Who know's maybe they will.

Of all the companies I'd pick to clone a '92, Mossberg ain't one of em

Looks like a good score. But, were it mine, the plywood would have to go. Darned cartridge names are begining to sound like the designations for old big blocks. But at least I can understand what size they are. Heck with all the x.x liter stuff on engines these days I gotta go look it up.

The conversion I use to find how many cubic inches it is, is simply mulitply the liters by 61 and it will get you close enough (5.3L x 61 =323.3) The true conversion is 61.xxx but I can't ever remember it.

Who else is there right now to come up with a modern functional lever action? Who knows, they might hit one out of the park.

I probably wouldn't have bought it either unless it were the limited edition. Reported to have a better trigger and such. With a Davidson's Lifetime guarantee, I'm not too worried about it :)

Can't wait to get it out to the range. I love the compact feel, too. As you can see I threw my $3 sleeve on there to make 9 on the stock, 5 in the tube for plenty of fun :)

She sure looks purdey, hopefully Mossberg has worked out all the bugs since introduction. One chambered in .338 Marlin Express (200 grains at 2,500 fps) could be fun.

I'm with ya lound n clear on "plywood" on a blued gun, but on a stainless or coated gun, i am a lot more flexible .

The greenish/gray laminate looks pretty darn good with a stainless/marine cote rifle to me :D

I hope it turns out to be a great shooter Panzercat !
