Rossi 92 Butt Stock replacement

Post by crystal river charli »

Good afternoon gents
I want to replace the butt stock on my Rossi 92 from a crescent to a squared off
type of stock.
I have searched with my limited computer skills and have not been able to come up
with anything.
Might one of you all know where I might find such an animal?
Thanks to All,
Charlie

I might be able to help. Mine has a carbine stock and I have thought I would like to try the crescent (rifle) stock. I wonder what the chances are they would fit decently well on each other's rifles? We could just swap 'em if your interested.

Sounds like a plan, however, I'd IM Nate (Steve's Gunz) here before you swap just to make sure they both would fit (which I assume they would).

I have swapped the carbine buttstock with a crescent rifle one on Rossi 92's and they are interchangable.

The only resource outside Rossi (check with Steve @ Steve's Gunz), that I'm aware of would be Precision Gun Works... and they only list the carbine version.

Gents,

Our own Jim Taylor made the swap:

http://www.leverguns.com/articles/taylor/rossi.htm

"Butt Stock and Forend
The stock was replaced with a crescent stock from a .45 Rossi. A friend had an extra and gave it to me. I prefer the classic look of the crescent stock and while it is more punishing on you with a hard-kicking gun, the .357 does not present that problem.

The original "finish" was stripped off the stock and forend using StrypEze and steel wool. Once down to bare wood the stock and forend were cleaned and dried and then an oil finish was rubbed in. To my eye an oil finish is much nicer. Using a fine wood rasp and sandpaper all the edges of the forend were rounded. For some reason the Rossi comes with sharp edges on the wood. With a little rounding the gun begins to more closely resemble what it was copied from."

The most simple solution is to get a shotgun-style butt-cuff and fill the crescent-gap with foam or whatever.
