Post by win92 »

I'm doing some practice uploadings some pics.
This was a rather large black bear I took about 20years back with a 444 Marlin. I sold the gun a couple years later and have been Kicking myself since Great Bear gun 265gr Hornady loaded to the max It was all three of us could do to drag that big boy 40yds to a road. (Bears don't have handles) click on the pick for a larger image.

LMAO re: "Bears don' have handles". Perhaps you could have left a trail of marshmallows from the woods to the road and waited for him to gobble his way closer before shooting him.

Nice rug and rifle , great pic 8)

 No handles on that lead filled bag of jello

A drag rope from your highest field dressing cut ( mine was a wind pipe cut in the throat) , through the mouth worked pretty good for me , that and a couple of inches of snow on the ground
Not a big bear , she was almost 4 years old and 165# field dressed and I dragged her out myself ( I'm 135# soaking wet )
Another Marlin .35 rem.

I once helped a guy and his party get a black bear out of the Little River drainage. It was heck for even the 6 or 7 of us to move that one bear about 1+ miles.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hey Win92, you see what Coloradoyaler has under his bear. Good idea. I'll have to remember to carry some of that netting with me. Sure make short work or shorter work on packing out a bag of jello.

Sounds to me like bear huntin is kinda like moose huntin...

Where do you shoot a moose?

As close to the road as you can.

The thing that got me about packing a bear out of the mountains was the head. Kept flopping around and throwing off my balance.

Oh, yeah, and being able to stand once my bubba in law helped it onto my shoulders.

Moose are easy!!

Post by win92 »

We managed to take them out whole from this place near Longlac Ontario all but one I remember had to be cut in half as it was 100 yds from the water. Shoot them on the shoreline roll them into a boat, bail out the boat put the motor back on and go. Mind you I was a little younger then!!!

Coloradoyaler,
Wow! A black bear with a 20" skull! That must be close to a record.
Thank you for sharing.

Colorado,
Tell us more about that bear. Where'd you take him? Guided hunt? Give us details - I've been thinking about doing a bear hunt.
