Nice rifle, Steve. You're gonna love it, of course.

I need to take my M1A out to the range this weekend, I think. Along with many others....

I'm waiting for my financial situation to settle down before I buy my "Military Retirement/Birthday/Christmas" present...which is the Springfield Scout model.
Still trying to make up my mind on the Wood or Synthetic stock.
I have the money to buy one, but I'm not getting the hours right now that I was a month ago. Might need that stashed money to pay bills :(

The WALNUT is awesome on those guns - never seen one with a blemish. You can always get an after-market synthetic one, and there are so many really cool synthetic ones you could get that whatever one it came with might not be the 'best' of them, anyway...

Congratulations COSteve. You triggered some fond (?) memories for me. I was at Ft. Ord in Feb of 67 and was introduced to the M14 and loved it. Liked the Garand, but loved the M14 and shot very well with it. That gun is on my short list, and like you, I have decided to buy a basic model. Originally thought I would buy a Scout, but I too bought a basic 1911 this year and the M14 seems more appropriate. I will be interested to hear how she shoots.

Happy pre-Birthday! And I've seen you've already gotten something to enjoy your day with. Good for you. By the time I went into the USMC they'd switched to the M16 and they were at the M16A1 by the time I went through. The M1A is a nice rifle. Congratulations.

Look up Fred's stocks on the net and they have all your M1a stock needs covered. I have a walnut, a birch, a fiberglass GI, and a E2 with the pistol grip, all but the walnut are from Freds and swapping them out is a breeze as I am sure you remember. Tom
