1892 Winchester books.

Post by the telegraphist »

OK guys its probably been asked before, but what books on the 92 do you guys recommend? I have access to the following at a guns bookshop in Oz.
Winchester an American legend by Wilson.
Winchester Lever Action repeating Firearms Vols 1,2 and 3 by Pirkle. Covering 1866 through 1895. I would like these three volumes.
The Winchester handbook by Madis.

Are there any others worth considering?

I have Wilson's book. I would likely get the others as well, if I felt they covered different information.

The Pirkle series is good for part by part identification but lacks pictures. All of the visual is artists rendition. Some history and no romance. Wilson gives more story and great pictures.

There's only one thats worth the paper it was printed on-"For collectors Only". These books come in the 1866,73, and 76, along with one on the 1892,and 1886, and another one on the 1894,1895.

The Winchester Book by Madis does cover a great amount of material but sadle it is filled with incorrect data for many of the models in relation to date of manufacture and the relative rarity of many configuration specifics.

Some day I will put out a book regarding the 1892 rifle which will cover much of what is sorely lacking today.

Good luck,
Michael
