Smith&Wesson Model 19-3

Post by Stan in SC »

My daughter's boy friend handed me a nice S&W 19-3 (.357 Magnum)blued with a 4" barrel and asked me to sell it for him.The revolver is a good 85%-90% and does not appear to have been fired much.He stated that it had belonged to his mother.I see them listed for anywhere from $430 to $550 on Gunbroker.I told him I estimated it would go for sbout $400 before I looked on Gunbroker.I think I am definitely in the ball park with that figure.I don't at this point have any pictures of this revolver. What say ye as far as my price estimate?

For a 4" 19 in the shape you describe, I'd go $400-425 personally. $500-$525 in better shape with box, etc. Now that's just what I'd go if I had the means. On the auction sites? Who knows...

Is it a square or round butt? Square butt, $400 and round butt $450 in 90% condition. IMO.

I appreciate the comments and advice.Keeping it myself is not an option cause I just have no need or want for such.

The S&W Model 19 is, to paraphrase some words from General Patton regarding the M1 Garand, the best one-handed fighting implement yet devised. I am totally broke this month, but would gladly pay $400 for a decent 19, and quite a bit more for a minty one, if I had the cash. (I will probably be broke next month and the next, so I am not meaning to sound like I am offering to buy it.)

Tycer,it is square butt.I took it to my local shop on Tuesday and he agreed to put it on consignment. It sold within 15 minutes of being put in the showcase at the asking price. My daughter's boy friend was happy so all is well.Of course when something sells so quick you have a tendency to think it was priced too low but who knows. It could have sat there for awhile.Anyway...that's done. Thanks all for the comments.

Outstanding! I think that was a fair price. I've fondled that same gun at the local range a couple of times at the local drool shop. It's 425 and has been there for at least six months. I have one like it and would love to find one of the 4" round butts. I've only seen one in 4". Plenty of shorter ones. Good on you for helping the man out.
Kind regards,
Tycer

No kidding, Model 19s and 66s are some of the best Smiths ever (JMO). If Stan was within driving distance, I would have tried to buy it myself

It will be interesting to see what it ultimately sells for. It is up to $355 so far with 13 days 8 hours left.

It is up to $430 (8 bids) with 9 days, 10 Hours left; I bet it sells for over $700.

Well, that might be high, I wouldn't be surprised if it reached $600, tho.

I doubt it will go that high - maybe 500 but since I have a very nice one I would like to see it go high also. Don't think the one on gunbroker is 99%.

By the way, the Model 19 on Gunbroker that rjohns94 provided the link for went for $566.95 with 22 bids.

YEP, that price is ridiculous IMO, especially when you consider you still have to pay for your FFL and shipping! That being said, my S&W 19-5 still isnt for sale!
