OT Just got my model 11

Post by iceman »

I just got my Remington model 11 Sportsman 16 ga. The seller said wood was 85% metal 95%. I think he was conserative, but that is a good thing. He even sent me the original action and recoil springs that he had changed out, an article on take down and a manual dated 1946. The barrel is not the original as it is date coded 1933, but the receiver has single bird engraving on each side which I have found out makes it post 1937.I only paid $250 delivered to my door so I am happy. If all goes well I may get a chance to try it out later today or tomorrow.

I forgot to mention it is modified choke, which is also good for my application which will be a walk around ruffed grouse type of use. Maybe a duck or goose if they happen to be around where I happen to be, so steel shot can be used.

I went to 16ga.com (I already signed up there) and asked about the age of this shotgun. I found out it was made in 1939. I think it is a nice piece of history.

Hey that's my gun! Ihad to look on the rack to see if it was still there. I use mine for a Turkey gun as it is choked somewhat tighter than a ducks butt. Mine is a late one made the same year I was born and is just about as nice as yours. It's one of my favorites and in my favorite 16 gauge. You'll love shooting it.

I've never even see a 16 ga. Everyone around here seems to have a 12, 20 or 410.

The more I look and play with this shotgun, the more I think I have another project. Find a 12 ga and a 20 ga and have a complete set. From what I have seen and heard, they do not sell at a high price ($200 to $250) yet they are a nice handling shotgun. What the heck it is only money.

It is almost as bad as leveritse. You have to spread the addiction around through a few types of actions, otherwise it gets real bad and narrows your field of view and appreciation of great workmanship. At least that is my excuse. :D :D

I have one from '47 - inherited it from my wife's grandfather.

It's a 12ga w/ polychoke machined onto the barrel - very nice.

He used it for everything from birds to ducks to deer. A handy all-around useful shotgun!

I like yours - a lot! Wouldn't mind a 16ga...
