Not me, but if you are doing it, I want to see the pictures.

This is an 1890's version of an 86 that I picked up a few years ago on this site. Doesn't look like much, but it is a good shooter. The 20" barrel length is sure a lot quicker to target than the 26"! This is as close to a guide gun as you will get in an 86.

I have no idea what the barrel length of the Marlin Guide Gun(?) is, but the Winchester 1886 was offered in a 22" barrel long before Marlin considered it. A shorter barreled 336 would offer little advantage over that length. :|

The guides guns are ~18-1/2". There was a member here who had a Browning 1886 with a modified (non-crescent) butt plate and a cut barrel and mag tube in the 16 to 18 inch range. There were pics of the rifle on the forum, but that was probably two to three years ago now. Maybe a search would turn up something or perhaps they'll chime in. It was a pretty functional (and fun) looking little rifle.

I have an 1886 born in 1897 that was originally a 25" round barrel (standard weight) with a 2/3 mag. It was cut sometime along the line to 20-1/2". It wears a factory lightweight shotgun stock and a Redfield 102 receiver sight. I absolutely love the feel and balance of it. I think an 18", ala guide gun, would be a great project and I look forward to you doing it

Found one, but I really remember a different butt. Maybe there are two?

I'd do it to a Browning ar a modern Winchester in a heartbeat if you were a mind to ---- a vintage 1886 i'd only do if the barrel was roached to the point it needed to be replaced anyway

I cut my 86 carbine to 20". I really like it this length. No regrets.

Great looking setup. The best part is the charactor that is worn into all your equipment. That stuff sure ain't setting in a case is it.
