OT: Four more years

Post by JReed »

My current enlistment was coming up in April so went and did it. I reenlisted for another four years this will take me to 18.5 years meaning that I will have to extend for a year and a half at that time so that I hit my 20 and can retire :D

Wow time goes by fast seems like I just went to boot camp last week  .

+1 THANK YOU for your service!

You are right about time passing fast, my first day of Basic was March 22, 1973 at Fort Ord, CA. There were still some WWII veterans in when I enlisted (including my Dad).

Good move Jeremy! My friend "Gunny" and his wife are both retired Marine "Gunny's". They pull in some excellent bucks and they both work jobs on top of that. He and she can tell their bosses anytime they want to go "pack sand" and move anywhere they want. Good security for life. :D -----------Thanks for your service :D ---------------Sixgun

Thanks for the service Jeremy. Hope you stay whole, healthy, and uninjured for the entire time. I won't ask for safe, as going to places which aren't safe is part of the job description for any of the military services.

Thanks gents.

We shall see what happens after 20. As a Gunny I can stay until 22 years, as a Master Sergeant I can stay until 26, and as a Master Gunny I can go the distance to 30. Right now I just playing it one enlistment at a time.

I used to live in Mira Mesa for a short-time so I'm familiar with Miramar. Man, some good riding weather down there. I'll have to hook you up with my Buell friends when you get there and have a bike again. Not too far for me when I'm down there as well. Good news!

AJ, TPTB the powers that be, Rif reduction in force no reenlistment, profile means injury or illness that keeps you from being 100% in your MOS (job) I saw alot of aviation warrant officers get riffed back to spec5's after 1972. danny

Thanks Jeremy for your continued commitment.

I was offered advancement to CWO1 late in '73... sat and listened to my Capt'n tell it was the best deal going and the XO tellin' me about the rollbacks to E5 (which I already was) and that WO's were a thing of the past... shoulda taken it... would've retired 10 years ago with 30 in!!! Why is wisdom wasted on the old? DON'T answer THAT!

Yep Gunner is the default term for Warrant Officers with many Marines. I have only come across two actual Gunners those guys no more about weapons then I could hope to ever learn. Marines are my favorite people too  :D

Funny thing is most of my Family were all Navy they are still scratching their heads on how I went Marine. :D

For a moment there I thought you were shilling for Obama's re-election campaign.

Congratulations on the choice and the posting; I lived in Clairemont when I was in SD and often watched the Tomcats land over the freeway (and sometimes they were buzzing our neighborhood - I almost thought I could reach out and touch one).

Guess you'll have to start a San Diego Levergunner's shoot.

yup I saw a couple majors riffed to W01 and 2 to sp/5. .bust a check ride/flunk inst. hood and they were gone.

I went to a medical board in 85 after picking up a profile from a E-ticket ride in a cobra.I fought to stay in and my SFC and WO3 went with me to the board.I won and got retained in mos and grade with a P-3 and retired in 94.(with 13 years TIG SSG  )
my commander told me I didn't have a chance in hell of beating the board.he who fights wins.

Yep very nice area. We are very much looking forward to the move. As to a San Diego Leverguns meet that all depends on the fine gents in the area I know 71fan lives down there. If nothing else I am really looking forward to getting back to the great coyote hunting out there.

Hey Jay that will only be the first retirement so don't feel to bad.

"Master Gunny" has a nice ring to it... You make it that far -- and I'll buy you another sword! And I'll hand deliver it too, so we can go out shooting together for some coyotes.

Hope Dee and the boys are doing well. And thank you for your service too!

Jeremy,

I come from a war time military family. And some not war time too. Wait, when have we not been involved in some sort of conflict (war)?

Any who, dad was Navy, Uncle #1 & 2 was Army, Uncle #3 was Army Air Core during WW II. Uncle #4 had too many kids.
Cousin is/was a Marine, probably past his 20 years now. Used that to get on at the Ruger Mfg in Prescott, AZ. His son is currently an active duty Marine.

Me, well, I'm a total civilian. Hind sight is 20-20 so they say and I wonder what I would have become had I enlisted. Might have made something of myself.

OBTW, can you read WWII Navy jargon? I've got dad's military records and need someone to translate them for me.

Joe
