Dilemma-When it rains it pours....leverguns.

Post by Stan in SC »

Last week I posted about the Model 94 in .32 Win special which I purchased. That pretty well shut down the gun fund this close to Christmas. Then last night I got a call from a friend who asked me to come over.I got there and he said he wanted me to buy some rifles from him or sell them for him.He pulled out a Marlin 336 in 30-30 with a Weaver El Paso scope, clearly an older rifle,a Marlin model 39 with gold trigger and an older small diameter scope marked "Marlin",also clearly an older piece, and a Marlin model 1894 in .44 magnum which has really gorgeous wood on it.All of these are clearly very well kept but older pieces.I really would have been all over the 1894 if this opportunity had presented itself several weeks ago but I did buy that other rifle recently and I just cannot swing it right now this close to Christmas. There are times when my "want to" just doesn't keep up with my "can do".

Ow! That hurts.

Maybe you can find a foster home for them until you can rejuvenate the funds.

That is a tough situation since all of those guns sound pretty desirable. Like and old friend used to say "There are always a lot more guns than 100 dollar bills". Maybe you can sell the 30-30 and 22 for him and get him to hang onto the 44 until your money gets right.

I think you did the right thing but not getting in over your head financially. I'm often amazed when I read about people putting guns on lawaway at shops. To me if you're in the situation where you have to lawaway a firearm, you probably have more pressing financial needs than buying a gun!

Go to the bank and take out a loan. You're talking about good lever actions here.

Well how good a friend is he and how soon does he need the money?

You could balance that out against your wants and desires.

Some good tips and advice.Thank you gentlemen. You know...I thought about this last night and I decided that although I want the .44 I must not want it bad enough to sacrifice something else to get it.If it happens that I have it stashed in my closet for long enough to come up with the funds then that will be a good thing. But if it sells before that time then it just wasn't meant to be.Good things are better if you let them happen rather than make them happen.
Merry Christmas!
