Hammering out Christmas gifts

Post by Gobblerforge »

I was out in the forge last friday getting some Christmas gifts made and thought you would like to see. I'm pretty happy with the finished product but I'll admit that it was harder than I thought. It took all day to make 4 of these cork screws. The handle was the time consuming part.

Very nice Christmas Gifts. Did I get on your list? No? Drat! :)

Wish I could do some of that nice metalwork. Saw a guy in Ft. Steel, Alberta a couple of years ago in the "ol' village". He made the point that the forge was one of man's most important inventions. Think about it; what new opportunities it opened.

Well I'm plumb stumped.. What the heck are the handles made from... some kind of shafting?
They look really cool...

Those are outstanding, I can see all the work that went into those.

The handles are square stock that is cut then twisted making the pattern. Gobbler very nice. I am no where near the skill level to make those they are most impressive.

Thanks folks. JReed is correct that the handles started out as 4 inches of 3/4 square stock each. This is the basis behind blacksmithing. Take stock, and with fire and hammer, change it. The handles required chiseling, sawing, hammering, filing, twisting, brushing and finishing. That's all.

Well done sir! Time spent at the forge and the ring of the hammer on the anvil has been a pleasure to me for over 45 years. I know the feeling you had when the first one of those impressive creations hit the water on the final quence. Impressive work on the handles. I know that took time, but well worth the effort....

Again, well done!
