This is one of the rarest Marlin's I still own. Rare enough that there is only a 1/4 page blurb, in Brophy's book, on page 632.
Marlin Gallery Gun.....only 500 assembled. Based on the Model 100. Single shot only. When you open the bolt the spent case gets dropped into the receiver and then you tip the rifle forward to expend the case through the discharge tube. Gallery owners wanted fast shooting repeaters, to generate more business, so these were a flop. No model rollstamp or serial number. The caliber stamp says "22 S, L, LR C.B. Cartridge".
Also note the disassembly screw. Marlin provided a spanner wrench, to take these down.
I figure before I get rid of it some of you may be interested in what they looked like.

That is one non descript looking 22 rifle. If I were to see it for sale somewhere, it probably wouldn't even get a second glance from me. It's certainly worthy of attention, but I would just think it was another old bolt action .22 rifle.

Yep, the brass (most of it) would end up in the floor of the booth and not out where the rubes were walking about. I don't think that was a big concern. The Winchester 1890s likely put a lot of brass out in the customer area...

I think every firearm manufacturer made a "solution to a problem that did not exist". This was Marlin's. Winchester did the same thing with the Model 55......a single shot semiauto.

Remington was the real innovator (my opnion) when it came to gallery rifles. The Model 550, 552, and Nylon 66 gallery rifles were all semiautos and had shell deflectors. Ammo was consumed quickly and the empties made a little pile in front . The Winchester Model 74 was the only Winchester semiauto gallery rifle, with a shell deflector. The Model 1890, 61, & 62 gallery rifles were fun, accurate, and extremely reliable, but sent brass everywhere including into other paying customers.

That's cool. It was a disaster for what it was designed for so few were produced. Now it's a rare, poorly designed rifle and a collector item. Only in America. Let the bids begin.

I almost kinda sorta wish I had my 55 back. The floating over the range when I explained what it was were always worth it...
