MODERATOR - Australian Levergunners and the Classifieds??

Post by Pop Watts »

Hello all,

Can we Australian Levergunners post adds on the classifieds?

Are there any restrictions on this?

I have a few bits to get rid of and thought some of the other Australians on this site may be interested.

There are no restrictions in posting. However, we expect all buyers and sellers to obey all laws, regulations, etc. It is even more important that you post your COUNTRY of residence in the topic title otherwise you'll have excited respondents who might not be able to purchase...

gday Pop, I dont see a problem, so long as we comply with the various state/territory weapons acts within Australia.
That is we broker any deal through a dealer usually nominated by the purchaser for the nominal weapons brokerage fee of about 30 bucks depending who you are brokering the deal through. Some shylocks will attempt to fleece a bit more, but you dont broker through them. For selling items overseas, then that is a more complex operation needing good knowledge of the various customs regulations for export/import etc.

I'd only add that current US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) make shipping many weapons or weapon components to other countries illegal without a US State Dept granted Export License. Violations could result in imprisonment for up to 25yrs and fines of $1,000,000 per incidence.

The list of items the State Dept considers falling under this law is huge and many would be amazed at the breath of the listings. As one who lived with ITAR regs for decades, I caution anyone against assuming any export is exempt without first checking HERE.

(And yes, even old, obsolete weapons or weapons related items are still subject to the provisions.)

I will reiterate that the original question was concerning Australia to Australia sales advertised in this forum's classifieds.

Probably the easiest way to do it would be to put:
"FS in AU to AU" in the subject line for those things that would be a problem going over seas.

Hobie,
Only interested in Australia to Australia sales.
It seems way too complicated to try for anything more than that.

Seems like a lot of posters don't read the instructions till after they're told they didn't follow them.

Many don't read them yet. They also don't take a lead from their edited posts!

Even here in the US, some will say "for sale in Texas, face to face only in Texas" or something like that, so "Australia to Austraila only" seems analogous.
