OT - New toy!

Earlier this summer I ran across someone on another forum that plays with co-axial micro-copters. I thought they were neat looking but figured why get into another hobby?

Well, the weekend of 04JUL my 8 y/o nephew stayed with us. The weather was kind of iffy for a pool party so good old Uncle Andrew took him to Wally World to pick out a toy. He picked out one of these Air Hogs that looks like a Bell 47. After spending a few minutes getting it set up and the trim worked out (sort of) I knew I needed to "test" it more.

I kept eyeing them at Wally World and caught them on sale yesterday for $25 so this red and black one followed me home.

They aren't gyro stabilized and aren't true co-ax but fun enough that I know I'm willing to drop a little more for a gyro co-ax bird to play with.

I'm such a child...

Nice little bird ya got there.

I started with a gas job, a sixty-sized trainer with a 6ft span. Soon it was a 90 incher with a chainsaw engine, a couple of seaplanes (great on snow), then a 1/3 scale spacewallker and 6HP engine that would allow it to climb straight up, unlimited vertical. Then "scale" took over, ending up with a 1/4 scale cub with a G-38 that would fly every so gracefully, even hover in an 8 mph wind.

I got out of all of it 8 years ago. But then a year ago I caught a "bug", literally, an ornithopter, a dragonfly thay flies by beating it's wings! It's my only RC, and can only be flown on calm evenings in the backyard.

No desire to go back into Rc big time though.

Glad to its not just me. My tastes run to trucks and buggies though. This relatively simple little electric R/C with a 1/12 scale '72 truck body started the disease and now i have a stable full of the little buggers, to include play toys like this one, up to dedicated racing machines (but still admittedly play toys, just more expensive ones). I have 2 nitro trucks, but battery and electric motor technology has progressed so much in the past few years that electric versions have caught and surpassed the gassers in a lot of ways.
