Removing gunk from camo tape

I have my EAA combo gun back from my brother that he had camo tape on and after peeling it off, there is the white adhesive film left all over it. What's the easy way to get this stuff off????

Goo Gone is one product made for taking glue off. Depending on what the gun's made from you might be able to use other solvents.

The gun is wood and blued steel and chambered in 222 under a 3" 12ga.

As Joe said GooGone works good. Takes the gunk off truck after peeling bumper stickers off, and dealer decals. Just a CAUTION, GooGone may also remove the finish from the wood. Be a good idea to test a small spot somewhere.

Alcohol and some elbow grease works good too.

Seems like that's a question your brother should be asking us...

In the future, he should use the crinkly stuff without adhesive ('Co-Ban' is one brand - they use it to wrap and hold bandages on); they make it in 'flesh' colors, bright 'cheery' colors, but also in 'camo' pattern. We sometimes use the camo pattern on kids in the office and they think it's cool. They sell it at farm stores for use on animals, and I think some 'shooter supply' places sell the camo wrap ones.

Cutting holes in, and decorating one of the green 'gun-socks' with some other colors of spray paint, and perhaps threading some local foliage through holes in it, can work. Make cut-outs for the scope/sights and barrel and trigger, can be effective, too...

I use acetone. It's faster and easier. It takes spray paint off too.

In spite of all the WD40/guns horror stories ever told, WD40 will do the job very well, with less risk to wood, metal, or plastic than anything else mentioned so far. And it's about the cheapest, too.

Goo Gone. It is very gentle but it dos' wonders on adhesives.

Don't worry guy I seriously chewed him out! I have his Mauser 98 that I am putting a firing pin in, and I think he will wait awhile for that one. Of course I can always just throw it in and shoot it my self!!!

I have plenty of WD laying around so I will try that first. I will pick up some Goo Gone today when we go grocery shopping.

Strangely enough, the best thing I have ever used for removing adhesive residue is cooking oil. It also does not harm any wood stock. I have recommended cooking oil to many patients who want to remove the adhesive residue from skin, and when they come back, they tell me that it worked great.

You might try GoJo, non pumice variety. Don't know about removing finish tho'.

I work on vintage fishing reels with old line stickers and even worse, built-up varnish from antique oiled silk fly lines. Denatured alcohol removes that kind of stuff in swipe or two.
Relative to your wood finish- that I can't answer, but it seems like a cloth dampened with the DA would be safe enough.

Naptha (lighter fluid) is available at any hardware store. I have used this product on guitars for 20 years
and it has never reacted with any type of finish ever. It is especially good at removing tape residue
and works like a charm every time - no problemo.
