I think we're all here 'cause we like guns...
Chances are, some of us have served, and most of us enjoy movies with action and guns in them...
And we probably like "shoot em up" movies, especially when the good guys win...
Sadly... Even when the good guys do win, not all of the good guys make it home alive...
My wife and I just watched this movie courtesy of NetFlix, as she'd recently seen Kevin Bacon on a tv show where this movie was mentioned. I'm glad she wanted to see it, as I'd caught only part of it while I was traveling on business once, but I had missed the first part and it always felt incomplete...
Now that it's over, neither one of us has dry eyes, and we're both humbled by those who serve -- and especially by the unselfish sacrifice of those who gave it all.
She said she "felt good" after seeing it, then she proceeded to ball her eyes out... Me, I sat down here to share some words and water my keyboard as it was looking a little dry... I highly recommend this movie if you want to see what happens long after the bombs and the bullets have stopped...
It tells "the rest of the story", which we may never get to see... Through carefully crafted scenes with minimal yet poignant dialog, and with simple yet magical moments of respect and reverence, the movie tells the story of one Marine -- battling his own feelings about his service behind a desk in VA -- as he accompanies a young Marine on the long -- and his last -- voyage home.
This movie has no action...
No s*x...
No violence...
No gun play...
And no car chases...
But what is does have is heart.
Tomorrow, I'll probably get back to chores around the household and Monday will bring about yet another workweek, God Willing... But as I do these things, half a world away the best young men and women of this nation will be putting their lives on the line to protect me -- to protect us -- and I pray that God will keep them in his Grace. I deeply appreciate and respect those who have served, those who are serving now, and those who have family members who serve. Thank you for your service, and may God comfort you always.
This movie may be too much for those who have lost a loved one in war, but I for one, feel like a better man for having witnessed this movie -- which is based on a true story.
Sadly... There are too many similar "true stories"...
Semper Fi Marine!
With respect and admiration,
Old No7

I have had the honor to escort my two best friends who died in service to their country, one in the Navy, one in the Air force. One a pilot, one a nurse. It was the greatest honor I could participate in. I never forget their sacrifice or those that have served, are serving or will serve. Blessings to them all. Nice post.

Really emotional movie!
If you haven't seen it it's really worth it.

Re: OT: HBO Movie... "Taking Chance"
I watched it a while back. Was very hard to keep a dry eye.
My wife was busy doing something else and only passed through the room a few times while I had it playing.
Later, I asked her if she wanted to watch my movie before I mailed it back to Netflix.
She asked, "That war movie you were watching?"
I was shocked and thought, "What made her think that was a war movie?"
I guess to someone who hasn't seen it, that's what they would think about it. I never, ever considered it a war movie in my mind.
It was a movie about honor and duty.
If I ever watch it again I will be by myself with no distraction (or witnesses.)
