We had a snowstorm here this morning... figured I post some updated pics of my 1894CSS and my growing .357 herd to cheer myself up.
Since I last posted pics of this carbine I have installed a slot-blank and made my first attempt at a lever-wrap... I also picked up some Hogue grips for the 686 I posted with the '94 last time (http://levergunscommunity.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22410) and added a 4" revo to my little stainless .357 collection...

BEAUTIFUL grips on those wheelguns. Your 1894css definitely has a better bolt-fit than mine did, too. (Some of the problem with mine has abated due to the extractor loosening up as I shoot the gun, and not preventing full bolt closure as it had been when brand-new.)

Thanks, Doc... I've spend a lot of time polishing and hand-fitting the internal parts, including the aftermarket ejector, the extractor, the trigger/sear/hammer, etc. Maybe some of that work (extractor in particular) plus the shooting I've done has helped it seat better... it does seem to be more flush now than when I bought it.

The grips on both the 6" 686 and the 2" 60 are smooth/grooved Hogue Monogrips in Pau Ferro wood... I'd suggest that you go and get some at a retail venue rather than order them online or over the phone... sometimes the wood quality (figure, etc.) can vary a lot and you'd be best off knowing exactly what you are getting up front.
Also, just so you know.. on the j-frames you need to replace the pin at the base of the grip-frame in order to use the Monogrips (they give a shorter pin to install).

Thanks. I had a LOT of fun getting to know the GP100 internals... I've never had a Ruger revolver before, and I probably spend six hours or so detail stripping and polishing it before I was satisfied with the trigger pull in both SA and DA. The SA started out rough but now couldn't possibly be any better. The DA started out rough and heavy and is now neither, but could still stand to be a little smoother... I figure I'll shoot it in and within a couple of hundred rounds it'll be perfect too, like the SA.
Interesting story on this gun too... I got it at Cabelas and happened to be there during a slow period... i hadn't made my mind up between the GP100 4", the GP100 6" and the SP101 3"... I was lucky enough to be dealing with a really patient sales guy who humored me as I literally checked trigger, timing , lockup (endshake, etc.) and cylinder gap on EVERY SINGLE Ruger DA revolver they had in stock... must have been around 13 or 14 guns. In the end this one was "the one"... unbelievably solid action, the best trigger among them (not saying TOO much) and I really like the 4" balance.
Adding the Hogue Lamo-Camo grips and working the internals just kind of finished off a real happy story.... I really like this one a LOT.

Do you find the leather wrap on the lever interferes with finger clearance very much?
No, but I haven't had it out in snow or deep cold wearing gloves yet... I don't think it'll be an issue even with gloves, but I haven't tried it out yet so the question remains.
