POLITICS - California Seeks Thermostat Control

Post by J Miller »

This is really something. If any group should be listed as mentally ill and added to the prohibited persons category it should be the government of California.
I honestly don't know how people can live in that state. I really don't.

Bear with me here, but I truly hope California continues down this path of tyranny.

I believe that in the coming years, as California becomes more and more of a total police state, that those who are profesional dependants will migrate toward this land of slaves.

There by, freeing the rest of the nation from their burden, and, just maybe, sparking some kind of exodus/revolution from the welfare state of government we have now.

Vote powers only go so far... and those of us who study history know the truth about total democracy.

I was born in the LA area, stayed there till I was 30. After 9 years as an adult driving a gasoline tanker on LA freeways 15 hours a day, I said enough is enough and got out of there. That was 1974. No way in hell would I have ever moved back, nor do I even want to visit there.

Gents,

Not only can you not buy new 3 gallon toilets, but the new rage is "two-button" toilets. One button flushes solid waste, the other one flushes liquiid waste. I think the "liquid" button uses about a half-gallon of water.

Actually, I like that idea. Wish it were 5 gallons and 1/2 a gallon. As long as it is a choice and not mandated, it is a good idea!

But it still scares me cuz I live in the #2 state on the list, New York. I just thank

And I suppose that the zip code you live in will have no bearing at all on if you are forced to sweat in the summer or freeze in the winter. I am sure that the liberal elite will not be forced to comply with this. They do need to do something, but this just doesn't seem like it to me. I think I would rather them cut me off than have the government control the inside of my house. It would be a short time before the green Nazis here would use this to combat "global warming" which is their excuse for any socialist plan they have now.

just think of the black market for those cheap box air conditioners that fit in any window.

When I came to CA I had a water-saving toilet that only used half the water of a regular toilet.

Problem was, you had to flush it 3 times to clear the bowl. Now that's progress.

Wait until they attribute some deaths to this in the heat wave.

Look, if they're worried about this, they won't have time to think about guns or ammo.

Exactly right.

Old Savage is much to nice a guy to say it so I guess it's up to me. We (California) don't want all you "yahoos" in our State. None of you non-Californians are smart enough to figure out the work-arounds for our assinine laws. You have to be smart (no brilliant) to live here.

Maybe, when they ban lead in your states, your minds will clear as the lead works it's way out of your systems and you will see the light of day and realize just how smart us Californians are.

Up here, in the very cold, snow filled, Northern part of CA that I live in, I've already got a work-around for the "State Controlled Thermostat". A WOOD STOVE!!!! See, there's a silver (errrrrrrrrrrrr brick) lining for everything.

And you're gonna tell me that they let smart guys such as yourself cut down trees whenever they need to, to support your pre-industrial revolution "work-around", right?

You are definitely a Yahoo who is thinking with a leaded mind.

Most guys here use Juniper Wood. Notice I didn't say Juniper Trees. That's because Junipers are considered shrubs and they are very destructive to the land they grow on. Very fast growning and they can overwhelm range land in just a few years. For most any tree here in the National Forest we need a permit from the Forest Service to cut it down but not for the Juniper.

Once your state goes "lead-free" you too will start thinking clearly.

Oh, it seems by your statement in the quote above that you might just be an environmental, tree hugging, whacko for which there is no cure -- "lead-free" mind or not.

Tounge-in-Cheek I say, "I'll see this country stripped bare of any living tree before I'll give up my wood stove" soooooooooooooooooooo, you better go out and buy yourself an ubrella so you can have some shade on a sunny day.

You may not be aware that environmental scientists can prove that condors use Juniper boughs to build their nests, and that the smoke from wood stoves is giving the spotted-owls a nasty cough.

Cease and desist with this talk of out-smarting the government.

They appointed these bureaucrats because they are smarter than you.

Sorry Joe. Let's try to get it back on track.

It isn't a stretch to have a thermostat in your home regulated by an instrument outside the home.

When I worked for a power company in Southern California before I retired for good, they had electric meters that sent out a signal that could be read by someone in a truck going down a street. That truck could read all the meters on the street in the time it took the truck to travel the street. It put a lot of "meter readers" out of work. Of course the signal went both ways -- meter to truck and truck to meter. If for some reason an adjustment had to be made to a meter (say, reset) the instrument in the truck would read the address the meter was at via the meter and make the adjustment on the go.

Seems to me they would have to grandfather the home regulated meter as I'll be darned if I'd let anyone in my home to do so.

EDIT:

I might add that the power company had a few experimantal meters that they conected to the phone line of whaterver customer they had (i.e., home owner, company, etc.). That way they could call the meter and read it from a field office or from anywhere actually. They could also service the meter (reset, etc.). Hence, no more need for the little truck to drive up and down streets. One of the guys at the meter shop told me that they could set the meter to phone in it's reading automatically on any date the company wanted. Once phoned in, the signal was processed and the customer billed without any human intervention at all.

Here is the point - this is what these folks will do. Junior may be a nice fellow but this is a battle and he is awol or worse where this can still be won. You see the thinking where the folks want something from the govt. other than order and freedom.

Yup, I hope they keep it up. The people who get fed up with all of it will leave, and the elitists will stay to rule the mob which will balloon to ugly proportions and then riot again and again.

Nobody will have a gun to defend themselves, and the streets will run red with the blood of the nouveau-socialists.

Lesson will be learned, and tyranny will be thwarted for a while.

Might as well get used to such devices. I think most people would prefer them to rolling blackouts.

One market solution is higher juice prices for peak demand. The power company can freely install meters to charge you what the market will bear for competitive, peak juice use. I imagine $20/kw-hr would get most people's attention (and attention is what is needed to get them to cut back). They would soon be howling for thermostats, etc. to crank back automatically instead.

The other market solution is more capacity, but I doubt CA will want to build more coal plants since the CO2 worries could cripple any such investment in the (near) future. Nuclear fission as yet has no proven cycle which can meet demands for the foreseeable future. Wind turbines?, not much there unfortunately.

In short, there appears to be limits to growth. We Americans grew up in a era of nearly unlimited energy availability. All indicators are energy will be in short supply by mid-century. We might as well start making the adjustments needed now, to have time to spare.

Forget about the work-arounds, guys. Next, there will be laws passed that don't allow you to burn wood in your house after they have limited your electricity and gas usage.

Oh...that's right - they are already here in the San Joaquin Valley...

In my town, as has been repeatedly and scientifically documented, the pollutants from San Francisco travel through a mountain pass (Altamount Pass?) and settle in our valley accounting for much or perhaps most of our increasingly bad air. Yet SF folks with their political power (with the support of their typically hypocritical leftist politicians) are not bound by the laws that we must abide by in the more conservative part of the state! In my town, you cannot sell a house that has a wood stove until you remove it - the house won't pass escrow until the inspector verifies that you spent the several hundreds necessary to remove the stove and patch the roof so that the stove cannot be reconnected.

New stoves must be pellet burners and/or have some type of sleeve that drastically cuts down their efficiency, but allegedly pollutes our air to a lesser degree. My pot-bellied free-standing stove is illegal in new houses here, and (as stated) must be removed if I wish to sell my home.

On certain "no-burn" days, we can receive a hefty fine if the air police (or whatever they are called) detect us burning. And with today's technology, even without spotting the smoke, I am sure that eventually the air cops will have a heat detector available to aim at the roofs as they patrol the streets - to foil any attempts at smoke deflectors.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe that many cities ban any type of wood stove at all. It's only a matter of time before this show is playing in a theater near you - midwest prairie home or not.

Let's not pat ourselves on the back too heartily about our cleverness, friends - just count yourselves lucky (temporarily, of course) that your state or locale has not (yet) been burdened with the Orwellian restrictions and government interferences that are most certainly looming on your horizon.

As our rights are eroded and Big Brother takes more liberties away (just wait until O'Hillary or Hillbama takes the throne), not only do we face the prospect of being limited in our power consumption; but air pollution concerns will carry the California experiment to your state, too.

Then, my dear levergun friends, you won't feel so smug about not being one of the unfortunate Californians who can't afford to summarily leave their families, children, grandchildren, jobs and homes to migrate elsewhere. Eventually, you'll have some of these sour grapes to eat, too.

If our nation decides to turn back to its roots and some sensibility, only then will we be free from the tyranny that is insipiently taking hold of every aspect of our lives in the name of "protecting our environment," among other liberal and "politically correct" euphemisms.

As for me, I'm experimenting with hamsters hooked up to a generator. But don't tell PETA!!

Despite a few silly over protective environmental laws, California is still a great place to live. Where else can you go from the beach to 8000' in the beautiful Sierra Nevada in a couple of hours. Besides, we have several thousand acres that we call home, a place where silly "rules" don't apply and shooting can be a daily exercise. I have been here for 62 years and have absolutely no desire to leave this beautiful state.

Yup - where you are, Mike, it is truly a paradise. I recall seeing the beautiful rushing river that flows past your home from one of your posts, and applaud your good fortune at having thousands of acres of beautiful mountainous terrain at your disposal.

When I was a lad and my well-to-do father had 500 wooded contiguous acres with a stream and lake in the then-pristine foothill area of Coarsegold, California, I, too was not bothered with such concerns. But then adolescence and the need to get out on my own changed my parameters, finally landing me in an urban home, as is the case with MOST of us Californians. No, midwesterners, we don't all say "dood" and spend our lives on surfboards, or work for Hollywood.

So for those more common folk who love leverguns, shooting, reloading and hunting, but don't have the same circumstances as those few lucky individuals who have the means to surround themselves with lots of elbow room and private property holdings, the repressive and intrusive laws of this otherwise beautiful state are a very, very real concern. That is the vantage point that I am portraying here. It's too bad our beautiful state was more or less hijacked politically by the kooks, the godless, and the leftists that are so pervasive here.

But Mike; YOU are the exception, not the rule. And eventually those Orwellian laws will get to you too. Several thousand acres or not.

So how is this Wi-Fi signal going to limit my mechanical rotary Honeywell mercury weight switch thermostat? Then again I do not live in California, worked there for many, many years...great people in general and beautiful in certain areas, but. Or should I say BUTT!

As far as toliets, if it don't give me a hickey when I flush, I don't want it! Then again, if you just dumped outside I guess you couldn't tell it from the other s***t people left behind.

Yeah and CARB is going to let you continue to pollute with wood smoke? They are or are trying to kill fireplaces in Fresno and the rest of the Valley.

I believe that in the coming years, as California becomes more and more of a total police state, that those who are profesional dependants will migrate toward this land of slaves.

There by, freeing the rest of the nation from their burden, and, just maybe, sparking some kind of exodus/revolution from the welfare state of government we have now.
Unfortunately, every state is moving in this same direction. Only difference is that California is a little ahead of the curve.

I wonder if they can control individual thermostats. I can see using this feature against your political opponents: freeze in winter, boil in summer.

BTW guys, I have found two 1.6 gallon potties that flush way BETTER than the old 5 gallon toilets. Amazing what a little design work and thought can do to send a turd to its fate.

They are going to beam stuff into our houses now?? :?: :?: ??

Oh my, now I have to get a brass screen liner for my tin foil hat.

When I delivered beer a store called "shop&save" had their thermostats controlled
by the central office in Washington state (I'm in NY). All the people that worked
in the back room were always complaining about the heat/cold and could do
nothing about it.

I wonder how much longer we can call this a free country?

Problem was, you had to flush it 3 times to clear the bowl. Now that's progress.
I live here and have one... The extra flushes have come to be popularly known as "courtesy-flushes"! :P What I used to do with a single 5-gallon flush - now takes 3 (maybe 4) flushes to avoid the risk of "floor nuggets". Trust me - floor nuggets are not pleasant (or typically gold in color)...
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!
