OT - made my 1st business trip since my surgery

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Sorry I've been MIA for the most part this week fellas. I made my first business trip in a bit over 2 months, since my back issues/ruptured disc/shots & surgery. Attended the National Sales Meeting for my employer. It was well worth it - it was a fantastic meeting. We only do these about once every 3 years so I wanted to make sure I made it. I had a lot of help, with my peers helping me with my bags, and making sure I had comfortable chairs during the various meetings. These (meetings) lasted from breakfast through dinner, pretty much non-stop. I under-estimated how tiring it would be. I ended up going to bed right from dinner each night, so barely made it here. Home now, and my back is paying the price for such a long week. I've been making progress though, slowly but surely. Thanks everyone for your continued prayers!

YK... as you know stress just loves a compromised back... I am glad you were able to travel as well as you did.

I have a bulged disc that does well with excercise and chiropractic... but a delayed flight or some other trigger and a few days of strange beds and weird food and schedules puts me right on my knees.

Glad your on the mend bud!

Glad to see you're up and around again. Don't over do it though and set back the progress you've made so far.

Glad you were able to make it this far.

I bet it's hard on the wife and kids too.

Hang in there and thanks for the update.

That's great news, Jay. Other than your now paying the price, but that should progress over the next months. Keep your chin up ole boy.

Don't overdo it. Pain isn't good for you, but soreness is not really the same. Soreness can be dealt with. Take care to continue to heal and strengthen your back.

I should be getting my appointment made soon to have Discectomy done on two of my lower disks. Been having pain issues since about Jan/Feb. Cramp like pain in my left buttock, pain in my calf, thigh, basically my whole left leg. The sole of my left foot has lost some feeling, and I don't seem to have the strength I once did in my left leg. Hopefully the surgery will help me out, as it is becoming a real pain in the butt. :D

I consider myself lucky with my back even though I have major Osteoporosis. It does get sore often, as most do, but in my case it actually has broken three times. Now you want to talk about major pain! But what's great about a clean break as opposed to most continuing back problems is they can epoxy the vertebre back together again and you're good to go! Very minor intrusive surgery, about two hours in and out. Takes a few days of rest, but zero pain after. My doctor calls my back a stack of fine China dishes.

YK, glad to hear you're getting back in the swing of things. But, as one who whent through the same thing 12 years ago, a word of warning. Don't overdo it. It takes litterally years for the back to heal completly. You may still have good times and bad for a while. Make darned sure you keep up with the back exercises. Keeping those muscles toned really does help take the strain off the spine. And darn it, don't stay in a sitting position too long, no matter how good the chair is. Keep moving.

Thanks fellas. I didn't make it back to the forum until late this evening. Between a bunch of things to do Saturday and Sunday, and my back and right heel killing me, I just wasn't fit to be around (ask Mrs. YK  ). Next doctor's appointment is this Friday - I'll keep you all posted.

And Chris, no need to apologize - I was acting "snappy" before!

Hang in there Jay!

Now, I must clarify my brother or you may think I meant something else. The reference came from when you pushed yourself too hard and heard something "snap". Jeremy and I were trying to keep you from snapping something else you see. You most likely knew that, but just in case........

Don't worry, based on the new guidlines for Tolerance and the prevention of Anti-Mob behavior, Eric Holder already knows that you've snapped and your name sits right beside mine........

Good for your Jay -- will be thinking good thoughts for you.

FYI, my best friend had back surgery and to this day, he still insists the BEST THING that he ever did for his back was go to acupuncture.

He still goes once per month, but he started out at 3X per week.

The thing is, he is one of the most conservative persons you'll ever meet, so for him to believe in this treatment says a lot. He's even been treated "with needles and pins" for stress headaches and other associated ailments over the years. He said the hardest part to get over was why they stuck pins "almost everywhere else" in him to fix his back -- but he insists it works.

Hey, even if you don't try it -- maybe just thinking about it will help you get better!

Good luck!

Glad to hear that you are feeling up to getting back to your normal duties. But please take it easy you didn't just have some thing as simple as having wisdom teeth out. Still praying for your recovery.
