What "ONE" lever gun would you buy yourself?

What "ONE" lever gun would you buy yourself?

If funds were no option, it was your birthday, Christmas, or a special occasion, just what would you buy for yourself?

Me? I would hunt up an early 1900s Win 94 SRC, 30 WCF in NIB condition.

I've been wanting a Ruger 96/22M (Magnum) for some time so that would be my choice.

Other than that, I can't think of anything that particularly stands out. Maybe a Winchester Model 95 in .30-06 but that would be far behind the Ruger 9622M.

Hmmmmm,... your question puzzles me. If you mean "what one lever gun would I want and buy if I could only have one, without counting the pennies",... then, I would go for a custom slicked up Marlin in 44 mag with a 26 inch octagon barrel.

I would have to decide between a 9422M and a Miroku Win or Browning 86 Carbine.

Without a doubt, a Winchester 1895 Musket in 7.62X54Rmm Russian, un-modified of course, with a decent bore. A bayonet would be nice, but not required.

it somebody threw me a wad of cash and said "Buy one levergun", it'd be tough. I do love my marlins, but I have always wanted a BLR, never felt a pressing need for one, just thought they were neat.

Probably a 1895 Winchester in .270 or 30-06

A SRC carbine... at least a 90% gun.... if I couldnt find a 270 the 30 Govt would do. Need the upper wood too.... I really dig those carbines and now days they bring way more than I care to pony up.

I would have bought the Turnbull CCHed Browning 1886 SRC that was offered here a couple of times. It is unfortunate that the timing was just wrong both times.

NO, NO, NO, I'm not saying you can only get just one. That's silly.

Perhaps I should re-word it a bit:

Ok,.... but, same answer as above. I have a Marlin 96/44 but w/round 20" barrel and safety.

p.s. I don't think "one" is silly. I have yet to get the system down for shooting two,... one in each hand!

Don't know if they made such a thing, but thats what I would want.

black/stainless* shotgun butt Winchester 1892 in .45 Colt with 16" 1:12* octagonal barrel, full length mag tube, green laser in the tube end, Beach front sight, bolt peep, custom tuned to shoot 405g pb cast bullets at 1050 fps.

* this would look like the springfield XD black over stainless finish
* about the rifling twist, I want whatever the redhawk has in the .44 mag

take-down with alternate barrels in the case.

A .480 Ruger (or .475 Linebaugh if the action would take it) on a Ruger 96 action (then maybe I'd have a reason to get the Rossi, too... ). If they had any sense at all, they'd make it themselves, as a companion carbine for their own revolver. And yes, I like the idea of that 'green laser' so maybe I could replace that silly front stock/barrel band with some sort of mount...

If I had to, I'd settle for the same gun in .357 Mag or better yet .357 Maximum...

I would get a Winchester 1873 44 WCF. An old one from mid 1880's or so. It wouldnt need to be perfect, but in good working order would be nice. As far as configuration and sights, I am easy just would like it to be original.

Blaine - the slick-up cost around $300 and the caliber conversion is $800 from Turnbull - and it can be done with only an 8 week wait!

I am actually living this scenario. I am selling of a very large chunk of my collection to build a three barrel TD 1886 on an original (mfg 1894) base rifle, in 40-70 wcf, 33 wcf, and 50 express. It letters with all three barrels. If I can swing it, it will be my "one." If I have to turn it around and sell it (which is very possible), the next in line is a two barrel set, deluxe PG 1894 in 30 wcf and 38-55. Either one of these could be my "one" and I would be quite happy.

I have two that I can't decide between:

1. Model 71 rifle with a bolt peep (either Browning or Win)
2. Model 94 in 25-35 w/longer octagon barrel

Right after them I want a Marlin Cowboy in 38-55

Browning '86 with early Winchester pistol grip, shotgun buttplate, tapered octagon 24" barrel, 2/3's magazine, CCH, very, very nice walnut and checkering, in .50-110.

Or a Browning 92 with all the above, except a button magazine, in .45 Colt.

I chose Browning/Miroku for the very reason I would hunt the heck out of them and would not want to worry about abusing originals, as they would be super rare in these configurations.

Ummm, I thought I answered that. I've been and am very fortunate. My gun only lacks the CCH. I suppose I could send it in for that.

I always wanted an 1886 takedown in .45-70 and found this rifle about 5-years ago for what I think was a good deal ($1100), it's pristine and shoots wonderfully ->

Image

I treated the rifle to a Kalispel "hard-case" and it will fit either my Trapper 94 .44mag or my Marlin 1894c in .357mag - along with the Miroku 1886.

This small-ish container makes for a wonderful day of enjoyable shooting.

That left me wanting for a stainless GG w/full length magazine tube in .45-70 - so I bagged this SBL and topped her off with a an Aimpoint Comp ML2 (2-MOA) w/LaRue QD mount...

Image

While NOT a traditional rifle - I think it's the perfect "companion" to my 1886..

I feel fortunate to have both of my favorite .45-70 levers. 8)

Sorry to drift from the topic - as I bought (and loved) the Miroku first.
