I am fairly ignorant of westerns, since most I have seen are from the late 80's or later. What are some great ones I should watch?

And here in the land of Wait-a-while I'm still waiting for it to get to the cinemas.
Its no wonder video piracy is such a popular passtime in Australia.

I think the Glenn Ford 3:10 is better.

:)
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Not a big supporter of Russell Crow here. If I am not mistaken, he is one of the Hollywood Anti-gun **** that continually makes his money promoting violence! I may be wrong but I am fairly sure that I am not. He wont get a dime from me.

Of course you can go to www.watchtvsitcoms.com and watch movies for free. 3:10 to Yuma is one of them. It honestly didnt intrest me!

Last of the Mohicans isn't really a Western, in the sense of cowboys and injuns, but it does have injuns.

It's the movie adaptation of the Natty Bumppo series by James Fenninmore Cooper. Frontier stories about a tough as nails old settler and his Mohican companion. Some excellent reading, though the movie fell short of the actual books.

The movie is still pretty darn good.

If you like westerns, but not the spaghetti kind, see Dead Man with Johnny Depp.

There's one scene with Crispin Glover that sort of gets wordy, but after that, it gets better. There's a scene as the main charcter goes out West on a train where the other passengers on the train, (scruffy frontiersmen and trappers,) start pulling their leverguns out for passing shots at buffalo.
It's a wierd sort of movie, but well done and gritty.
Lots of deeper implications.

I agree, seen both. Hands down the 1957 version with Glen Ford was 10x better.

Did anyone see "Open Range'' the other night on AMC. It stars Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner, I thought it was pretty good.

"Good Ol Boys" - only on VHS

"Support Your Local Sheriff" and "Blazing Saddles" for sheer lunacy, double entendres and pokin' fun @ the entire genre.

"Silverado"...
and any western w/Sam Elliiot, Ben Johnson, Clint Eastwood, the "Duke," Lee Van Cleef, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall and gosh... the list could just go on and on.

And don't Charles Bronson...

How come "The sons of Katy Elder" didn't appear on any of your lists.
The professionals,
Paint your wagon,
The Alamo ( both the original and the new one)
