Can I ask this on here ?

Post by winchester1886 »

Or will you all refuse to talk to me ? who do ya's think is the greatest NBA Basketball player of all time, and who would you put in your starting five. ?

My pick,

Best player of all time: Wilt Chamberlain.

Starting five: Wilt Chamberlain(C), Bob Pettit(F), Elgin Baylor(F), Majic(G), Michael Jordan(G).

Any comments ?

Got me, I am not even sure I know how the game is played.
Why would you not be able to ask that question?

Wilt, Pistol Pete, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. If I could have 6, then Chuck Connors from the Boston Celtics would make the list. The Rifleman also won a championship as a Center for the Celtics. Does that tie it in to a Leverguns topic?

Never was a big fan of basketball, and I grew up in Indiana! I guess it was because I have a 3 inch vertical jump at best, and can't stand all the fouls. Now football, that's a sport!

Problem today is that almost every professional sport has degenerated into drug-induced gangsterball...

Old Savage I agree with you to a degree, Majic is probably the only player I can think of that could play every position and be top class in it, but I am like you not one of my favorite players.

I tend to go with Wilt because no one has ever dominated the game like he did, I don't think he would have any trouble playing in to day's game, in fact I think half of the modern day Center's wouldn't go on the court if they knew Wilt was waiting for them.

When asked the same question, Wilt answered West, Robertson, Baylor and Rick Barry (underhand foul shooter +90% and a real scoring machine). You needn't ask his pick for center.

one could argue that the best 4+1 would be Mike Jordan and his surrounding cast during the "Dynasty Years".

Those guys against WEST, WILT, Havlichec, and Johnson, and Karl Malone... mow if we could get that game in town-I'd buy a ticket.

Chuck Connors was a 2 sport major leauge player... he worked for the Dodgers and Cubs too.
My uncle played in the Cuban Winter circuit with Chuck... Ed never thought much of him... Conners was pretty high strung and a bit arrogant according to my Uncle and their other teamates.

That's why I like John Stockton. Short(ish - 6'1") White Guy from Gonzaga University. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/john_stockton/index.html

Bought the entire floor from the Utah Jazz arena and had it disasembled & shipped to Spokane to build a community B-Ball facility.

It was not at all uncommon to be playing pickup games at GU and have him drop in & play all commers.

Straight up, unpretentious guy. Easy to hang around with.

you're pretty much talking to a NASCAR crowd here...

Seriously, basketball's not my game, baseball used to be but they lost me with their strikes. I enjoy a game every few years but don't follow any team and don't know who the players are.

I was interested in baseball and football UNTIL the players started getting younger than me, then I lost interest.

Sure .. You can ask ... but have to put up with our answers.

What does basketball have in common with old Levergunners?

Dribbling comes to mind.

For basketballs I like to use the old singleshot 12 ga. ... Toss that ball as high as you can and see if buckshot will shed it mid-air.

The 32-20 Marlin is nice on them if you are where you can do aerial shooting. Otherwise use a good backstop.

Other than that, I am with Thomas Jefferson on this one -- "'.... games played with the ball stamp no character on the mind ...'

THAT has been proven correct for many years now. Yet we still don't pay attention and make heros of the basest sort of folk....

I thought this was a place where all us like minded guys hung out together and talked about what ever anyone wanted to talk about, I thought I was amongst friends, obviously not on both counts, if I go to a post and it is of no interest to me I just click of and go to the next one, I don't get my Levi's in a knot over it, some guys like to post pictures of their motor bikes, I am not into bikes but it don't worry me in the least, talk about what ever anyone wants to talk about.
And yeah Julius Erving is my favorite player of all time.

Tonight may be the night --- but i hope the Magic can pull one out of their rears anyway to make the series more interesting. They lost 2 to rookie level mistakes. And 2 OT games in a final? Unbelievable.

Kind of like some others on the board, I wasn't much of a basketball fan either until The Hornets had to use our downtown arena (Oklahoma City) after H'cane Katrina ----- Now we have the Thunder -- who are admittedly bottom feeders, but its fun to go to the games anyway. It has given me a much better appreciation for the game, -- i only wish i had went to some of the OU games while Blake Griffen was still there

guess you could say i'm a b-ball fan now
