2nd annual Indiana get together

Post by JReed »

Ok party people. It may be cold and crappy out now but summer will be hear soon enough. We need to make plans for the next get together. Sundays work best for me. I was thinking end of May or early June. The range we used last time ( thanks to OI) was awesome. Hopefully OI can pull the right strings and we can go there again. I know it is a drive for some of us but it is a nice range and the company and guns make it worth it.

So what say you all. My boys and I had fun last time would sure like to do it again.
Here is the report from back in November. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11908

Here's the Range Webpage: http://www.geocities.com/sam_range_knox/

Generally, anything but the 3rd Sunday and 4th Saturday of every month are "open" for me to come and unlock the gates. (Excep June. The scheduled shoots in June are on Sat the 20th & Sat 27th)
http://www.geocities.com/sam_range_knox/Bulletins.html

So long as we clean up properly & don't wreck stuff about the only thing not "allowed" is Tannerite...

Overnight camping is OK, BUT... PRIMATIVE RANGE: NO ELECTRIC, WATER, OR FOOD. BYO FOOD/DRINK, (TP for the portapot)...
C2N14... because life is not energetic enough.

How about those of us from IL? Are we still prohibited from bringing our short guns?
I remember we talked about this a bit last year, but don't remember the outcome.

I don't know anyone from Illannoy who shoots their own pistols while in Indiana

It's a private Range and any cops there won't care...

Hey Joe come on out. It was a good time back in November it should be even better with warm weather.

OI I found all my muzzel loader stuff so we will be able to play with those also. :D If you are bringing your bow again I will bring my target and we can have some fun with archery also.

I am getting about 200fps with a 400gr arrow.

If I can work it The boys and I may camp so we dont have to get up early. I am fine with primitive camping thats what oil lanterns and cast iron cook wear is for. :D

If we can get a date set I will make sure I get to this one. It's a bit of a drive
But I sure would like to make this one!

unfortunate b.s. prevented me from making the Nov. shoot.

Meeting adjourned...

OK. Here's the skinny...

When do youse guys want to show up?

The only constraints are:

No boozin. (duh)
No shootin after dark. (duh)
No Explosive/incinderary/anything over .50 (unless Muzzlestuffer/shotty-slug)

Here's the Range Webpage: http://www.geocities.com/sam_range_knox/

Generally, any date but the 3rd Sunday and 4th Saturday of every month are "open" for me to come and unlock the gates. (Excep June. The scheduled shoots in June are on Sat the 20th & Sat 27th) http://www.geocities.com/sam_range_knox/Bulletins.html

HOWEVER... it might be cool to do OUR gig on the 3rd Saturday then shoot a few "official" rounds of sillouhette on the 3rd Sunday just for form's sake (boost's the club's "official" numbers doncha know...)

Overnight camping is OK, BUT... PRIMATIVE RANGE: NO ELECTRIC, WATER, OR FOOD. BYO FOOD/DRINK, (& TP for the portapot)...

SO.... Look at your calendars. I can arrange just about anything within those constraints. (including a decent fire-pit....)

Well guys, I assume we're looking for best weather. I can probably do one of these dates....
MAY/30-31, iffy, have friends coming from out of state, but he's a shooter/hunter too so that's a maybe. June/6-7 working can't make it. JUNE/13-14, JUNE/20-21 should be no problem as far as can tell now........June/27-28 I will be away on vacation.

Pick a date that's convenient for the the many, I will be there if I can make it.

AJMD, Nemhed, Eric65, JMiller. Hey guys don't think about the long drive, Just think how much fun a day of shooting with cyber friends will be.

Hows June 14th? I would say the 21st but that is fathers day. That gives me enough time to try and get some loading done.

Looks good Guys.

I'll probably bring one of the Kids with me. The oldest
works weekends and isn't into shooting and camping as much as
his little brother.

Blondie isn't about to spend the night in a tent so
it'll be me and Number Two Stepson :D

Any specfic requests of my shootin' irons that you guys
might want to shoot? You guys have seen most of my collection on here.
Enfields, Springfields etc.

For sure gonna bring my '86/ .33 WCF and one of the '92s.
probably my 39a and Goober will have his 336/ 35 Rem and 10/22.

I havent even started really thinking about what guns I am bringing. All depends on what sort of components I can get in to reload. Primers are proving to be a problem good thing I got lots of precusion caps for the front stuffers and a bunch of .22 for the kids.

If you are bringing your Enfield I'll bring mine ammo or not.

OK, so it's June 13th and 14th then? And I still need a map or coordinates so I can properly get lost and never be seen or heard from again ............. I wish.

And I'll bring my No4 Mk1* and some catridges too. Haven't fired it in over 10 years so it will be interesting to say the least.

There's not really a Street Address... it's just a chunk of land on 200S.

lat=41.2736453714, lon=-86.7312851692

http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&i ... 06866&z=17

However, I will set up a couple of signs pointing the right direction.

Google can give you good turn-by-turns if you use the Google Earth KMZ, but really the simplest directions I can give are:

Go South on State 39 from US 30 untill you see my sign. ;)

Joe: Probably the easiest run from Springfield would be this route:

1: Start out going NORTH on I-55 BL/ N 9TH ST toward E JEFFERSON ST/ IL-29 N/ IL-97 N.
2: Turn RIGHT onto E MADISON ST/ IL-29 S/ IL-97 S. Continue to follow IL-97 S.
3: IL-97 S becomes I-72 E.
4: Merge onto I-57 N via EXIT 182B toward CHICAGO/ I-74 E/ INDIANAPOLIS.
5: Take the US-24 exit, EXIT 283, toward GILMAN/ CHATSWORTH.
6: Turn RIGHT onto CR-1700 N/ US-24 E.
7: Turn LEFT onto S CRESCENT ST/ US-24/ US-45. Continue to follow US-24 E (Crossing into IN). 61.0 mi
8: Turn LEFT onto US-421. 32.5 mi (Compass reads NORTH)
9: Turn RIGHT onto IN-8/W 100 N. (Compass reads EAST)
10: Turn RIGHT onto IN-36/S 200 W (Compass reads SOUTH)

Heading South on IN 39 you will see the sign on the side of the rpad. Turn Left and listen for the shooting (about 1mi on left )

Well my truck took a dump on me so I will be two wheeling it to the shoot. That will really put a pinch on how many guns I can bring pistols fit nice in the saddle bags but the long guns need to be ones that I can break down into smaller packages. I still plan on camping for right now. This makes for a good excuse to go get a smaller tent :D

What time does the event start and how long will it last?

From what I have been able to gleen from the posts, it will start Saturday June 13 sometime. Camping at the range is available, but is primitive only - no facilities, power, or running water.

Are some folks planning on arriving Friday night?

I know - a lot of questions from someone who can't make the trip, but since this is near my old stomping grounds, I've been following the "story".

I will be setting up Sat AM (6/13), probably about 9 or so (CDT) unless I need to help bring people in.

I will be tearing down Sun Nite sometime after we run out of bullets or daylight.

I will be out there Sat late afternoon/evening before the sun goes down and head out Sun late afternoon. That should give me enough day light on Sat to set up a bikers camp and settle in for the night and do some BSing before the bullets start flying in the morning.

Ok guys, here's what I'm thinking. This looks it's like turning out to be a decent gathering, so let's plan on a cook out on Sunday. If you all can give me a definite head count over the next 2-3 weeks, I will buy some meat, PORK STEAKS, is what I'm thinking, enough for each of us. I will put my charcoal grill and fixings in the truck and bring with me.

Maybe someone could throw in a couple cans of pork & beans, or a couple of onions, loaf bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, you know the usual...whatever you think might go good with charcoal grilled pork steaks.

So, what do you all think.....???????

I've seen a definite "I'll be there" from OI, JReed, 2ndvc & son, myself. And possibles from JMiller and Eric65.

Let me know what you think and get me a definite head count so I know how much meat to get...................... :?: :?: :?:

OI, I don't need instructions on how to get to northern IN, I just needed to know where the range is, and any local directions. I'm a long time delivery driver and I can find most anything. I can even find FT Wayne in the dark. I also plan on using a much different route, I ain't going anywhere near Cook Cty, Chicago or Gary with pellet dispensers in my vehicle.

Now on the funny side, did you know that when you copy and paste the co-ords and remove the little - in front of the lat you end up in:
IN SHOOT.JPG
WULUMUQI. I think that's somewhere in western China. North east of Pakistan.
Kinda threw me for a moment, I don't mind a road trip, but that would have been a bit much.

Ok Joe... Go east to indy, north on 421 to 8, east on 8 to 39, south on 39 to the sign.

Better? ;)

As for Google... what makes you think Pakistan is a bad place for a shoot? Lots of targets ... just gotta dig em out...

I'll bring roasting 'taters, peppers & secret sauce...

A couple racks of pop too... cola & yellow pop anyway ...

OI, much better.
Pakistan is OK for a shoot. No complaints and I hear they have an abundance of 303 Brit ammo. Oh wait, that was Afghanistan. Either way I was just trying to figure out how to come up with the gas to get there.
