OT- Colt SAA #1 for sale

Post by Otto »

Gee, I don't know if I'd pay that much for a used gun. There's almost no finish left.

Fred Mills acquired it in 1925 for $4. Now it may go for a cool million!

I need to change all of my investments...

I've the pictures of that gun on my desktop right now.

It's probably best I don't own it, cos I'd have it to the range shooting it. Ahhhh, the smell of black powder from a 136 year old Colt would be wonderful.

You could always have Robar do it in NP3 and then the finish would be nicer :D That ought to kick up the value :D

While this gun has less than pristine finish, it is nevertheless an exremely rare a significally important piece of American firearm history. The gun appears to be in excellent mechanical condition, rust and pit free and shows the time honored use that it has had. Any US firearm with Serial #1 is the ultimate collector's dream, and worth every cent of the 500K oponing bid. It will interesting to watch this auction, if nothing else, to see how it proceeds through the process. I will not be attending this session as it is being held in Las Vegas, but will follow it via the internet, IF my feeble mind allows me to remember the time. :)

Greg was "Arms and Armament" specialist for Butterfield and Butterfield, in San Francisco before striking out on his own in that city. He has been quite successful in his auction enterprise, but has difficulties with some folks over his personality. I find his dry humor and biting wit to be to my liking. He does not kiss any of the "holier than thou" collector's arses, as they expect folks to.

Mike,
As you know, THAT is the SA Colt to have. IIRC, the last time it went for auction it went for $200,000. Hey, lets start a guessing game right here. The winner gets a free post. That should save Ysable Kid $10. :D

I'm guessing it will go for 1.4 mil.

IIRC, a few years back Martin managed to pry $650K out of some fool for a lousy 1873 Winchester "One Of One Thousand", so I am gonna stick my neck out and guess that it will top the high estimate by $1100. That makes it $1,000,01100., buyer's premium inclusive. :D

If a Jackson Pollock dribble painting can go for 140 mil, this Colt should break the million dollar mark. I say it does
