Henry .22 Sticker Shock!

Post by airedaleman »

What happened to the list prices on Henry's .22 line? $319.95 for the base lever action, and $499.95 for the pump gun!
What did I sleep through?

P.S. Saw a barely used one for $210. Why didn't I buy it?

Seems to me that earlier this year I saw one in the local Walmart for $179.95. I'm thinking that Henry getting a little carried away with themselves as far as their price structure is concerned.

I was thinking about a pump in .22 Mag a while back but like you when I saw the price tag I dropped it like a bad habit. Too rich for my blood. At least for that gun.

Wait and buy one on sale at Wally World. Currently the dealer price for 1-5 guns is MORE than what W/W is sellinng the guns for. A small dealer of smaller gun store can't buy enough volume to get you a decent price.

And then I suppose you will be dismayed, when you go to your local dealer for something WallyWorld doesn't carry - only to find that WallyWorld has driven him out of business.

I'm sure Henry would like to continue to be a price leader, and is holding their pricing commensurate with their latest costs, after eating their cost increases for awhile at gun buyer's profits.

IMHO, Henry is STILL the best bang-for-your-buck (sorry  ) in the rimfire levergun world.

I'll pay more thank you. Keep your business local.

Gentlemen,

I paid $199.95 for my bigloop Henry, five years ago. I bought it at the biggest little gunshop in St. Bernard parish: Meraux Food Store. Prices for Henry rifles remained about the same for around two years, after that puchase. Now, I have watched the selling prices for Henry rifles go up for about two & a half years. Academy had a Henry for around $219.00, the last time I was in there. ...but, tiny Slidell Arms wants $279.00 for a bigloop Henry. Yep the two rifles are a little different, but not by as much as the price spread would make you think. I agree: volume can make the price lower. I try my darndest to buy from the smaller guy, though. So far, all of my gun purchases have been from locally-owned, small businesses.

Henry still makes a fine product, but they have to compete with the other companies. Those other companies have also raised their prices. Likewise, the higher prices trickle down to us. However, I think that some gunshops are just plain asking too much for some things.
